  3. it’s easy to forget that dark side is the side we always see so appears to be dominant but the bond of the light side is strong and universal and is the very essence of what connects and holds everything in place In the Universe!

Yes it would but as he's been trying to sell it for many many years I'd try low balling him. Might not get anywhere though as he's obviously in no rush to sell.
On the other hand there ain't much wrong with the one you have if you just sorted out the compression issue.

You could but it’s only an 1800 and you could easily rebuild your 2.0l for a lot less money. And you’d still need to buy carbs. Although the add also says it comes with 40 PDSIT carbs they’re not shown in the pics. The heads are probably ‘big valve’ and desirable but not for £2.5k.

  13. If you do change dramatically from the original 1600 engine,
Do you forfeit the MOT exemption status and just lie when you do the online Tax thingy,
Or I suppose you will have to get an MOT every year then?

  15. You are probably right these days, nobody will care but you know what the AA and insurance companies can be like .

  16. The biggest threat looming seems to be a "non- alteration" clause in new car sales, in other words you buy the package and any modifications will be deemed illegal similar to the German TUV (?) . It hopefully won't affect us and it's still being talked about but it's another nail in the coffin of freedom....

On a modern car theres so much crap in there that affects safety.. like putting a body kit over sensors.. you have to be stopped as the car makes its 5 year career from depreciating like crazy to beyond economic repair .. " your model LIDAR is obsolete, they are keyed to the ECU so tough"

For the MOT Theres a points system which is for modifications made to cars which were not normally done within 10 years of last manufacture . So if engine swaps with Subarus happened before 1989 you would be OK. Also the Subaru swap fits so it doesnt raise alarm bells with bits sticking out in strange places..

Basically the MOT is worried about brakes and rust, engines less so. Just I expect if you turned up with coolant lines dangling instead of being securely cable tied there might be a problem.

Cable tied up like my oil cooler lines are cable tied under the rear engine mount bar and forward to the cooler..no problem.

In reality if you tell the insurance you have a 2L Subaru engine, some will just call it a 2L engine , others may refuse, but eventually some insurer will say Yeah, Subaru, thats OK.

Not telling the insurer gives them the chance for declaring insurance void..

While I like freedom some of the modified cars (especially VW) I see on the UK road I’d be happy to see made illegal. Bumpers dragging on the ground, skinny tyres, extreme negative camber, chassis chops etc.

I think there must've been a 'meet up' of these type somewhere yesterday, as about 30 of them all whizz past me as I was doing 65 on the M27, weaving in and out of each other, braking hard, accelerating hard, using all three lanes.... god I sound old, but I'm surprised there wasn't an accident !
