Front runners, if anyone is genuinely interested Pixel 4a - fancy charging, great overall camera, 3.5mm jack, gorilla glass 3 on front and polycarb chassis, 60Hz screen, 350£ OnePlus Nord 2, very fast charging but not quite as clever as Pixel, 5G ready, no 3.5mm jack, moohasive battery, lots of camera options but not as good image software as Pixel (less fancy DSP) gorilla glass 5 both sides, 90Hz screen, 389£ Both have fingerprint sensors and all the other usual guff. Basically, it's a choice between clever software, on the Pixel, with its average hardware, and the Nord 2 which has much better hardware specs but less clever software. All the reviews says the colours on the Pixel, screen and camera, are slightly more realistic, I am wondering if I'd notice without having both in front of me. The lack of the jack on the Nord is potentially a pain as I would need some new earbuds, the Pixel really needs C-C PD USB chargers. No galaxy, my sleeve remains pristine and unsullied
This may be true, but if you saw the surveys on your iPhone then they are only apple surveys cos you won't be allowed to see any non-apple content
Well , here's a thing, they must have known a Yorkshire fella was on a shopping trip, the Pixel just dropped by 50£ on the dreaded place that should not be named. Couldn't resist a bargain Thanks all
I know you have made your choice now, but one thing that I have become used to is the idea of a waterproof-ish phone. So I will hijack this thread before it is cold.. I recently tried out and returned a Galaxy S21 and carried on with a Galaxy S10 as I found the S21 to be generally less clever than the Galaxy S21 - cameras no better, and other bits and pieces being thrown away to support 5G. .. As a result I will be looking around for a decent waterproof-ish phone eventually : any ideas. ?
USB C.. cables/chargers Carry more current , And have a faster transfer rate as most phones have a high current draw as they fast charge.. A non usb C can melt...
Basically, I can charge my laptop though a 100w usb-c charger that will also auto detect the signal going the other way to duplicate/replicate screen. You don’t need any of this Marmite to charge a phone from a charger. And the phone will take what it needs. End of.
I have no idea what all this fast charging, high current, intelligent protocol stuff means, but I do know that after 18 months of ‘normal’ daily iPhone 11 usage I still have a phone that the battery lasts 2 days. Buy new phone, run battery to zero, time how long it takes to charge to 100%, buy a timer socket and set it to this time, plug the phone charger into it, and only charge your phone when it’s dead or dying. It’s not a super intelligent charger, just a slightly intelligent human being. Works for me
The phone does indeed control the charging of its own battery, nothing external. It takes what it needs (or is safe - see @Soggz pic) from whatever’s connected.
From Google themselves... "Charge overnight until your alarm goes off (Pixel 4 and later) Important: When you charge your phone between 9.00 p.m. and 4.00 a.m. with an active alarm set for 3.00–10.00 a.m., your phone uses adaptive charging. Learn how to set an alarm. To help preserve long-term battery life, you can charge your phone steadily overnight. Adaptive charging uses your alarm’s settings to completely charge your phone just before you wake up." I will have to set an alarm at the weekend now
£400 for a phone? As the Reverend Ian Paisley used to say: "Never, never, never" £200 tops for me, not interested in watching films or tv on a phone and no interest in taking photographs good enough for a month in the Countryfile Calendar. And I'm not a teenager.......
