Ive absolutely no idea why though. Was setting my tappets tonight and took the dissy cap off to find.... Believe me it was starting and running just fine and had a slight misfire on tickover id put down to a fouled plug! Do you think I'll get a few more miles out of it. Oh yes and the inside of the cap looks like its been in a fire! (spose it has)
possibly need to review my maintenance regime eh! the exchangers I took off...well amazed they gave any heat out at all ie not that much left of the cases. On that subject I was wonderin whether fibreglass cases could be made. would they stand the heat. Just a thought!
everything burns at some point. Just whether it maintains its integrity at heat exchanger temperature?
Have a word with Paul Weeding as i know he uses a heat resistant fiberglass in the engine tins he manafactures
You get heat and chemical resistant resin, which is what I use as technically oil is a chemical, but you also get fire resistant resin... but as it's also a polymer, like zed said, pretty much everything burns at some point!! I would be wary of making or repairing the cases out of GRP, as the exhaust temperature is very different to the engine temperature... you could find that it starts blistering and breaking down quicker than in other applications... You could remanufacture the cases out of stainless... should be reasonably doable
