How to remove barrel from Engine lid lock ?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Lofty, Oct 30, 2012.

  1. Hi all
Thanks to Davidoft, I now have an engine lid lock that I want rekey. I will follow the tutorial that is posted elsewhere to do the actual rekey but I need to get the barrel out of the lock and tutorial is based on a door handle. For the engine lid lock, how do I get the barrel out ? Is it something to do with the little grub screw in the top of the lock body ?

  2. You need to knock out the pin in the side the make the latch part of the lock engage... then the whole barrel/button will come out, and you can find the tiny grub screw...

I've got a spare I can strip and photo if it helps...?

  3. Cheers Paul
Pics would be great if you do not mind.

  4. Give me a couple of hours, and I'll sort you some out

  5. Here you go dude

    There's a pin through here

And you knock it out through this hole... you'll need to manipulate the lock for it to line up, plus if it's a genuine lock, it'll only come out one way

Then you'll need a flat blade screwdriver with a blade of about 2mm.... undo the screw with the key in the barrel, and the barrel will pull out

  6. Thanks Paul. I'll give it go.

  9. Thanks to Davidoft for the lock and help, and to Paul Weeding for the pics and the help. Along with Chrisradioman's tutorial on rekeying, I had the new lock rekey end and on the van in about 45 minutes.
