How to flatten my old computer

"Darik boot and nuke" google this it can take a day to run but it overwrites your data with garbage repeatedly until your data is gone. I've used it and have never been able to see even a hint of old data afterwards.

Just looked at the website seems its been taken over still works but a free trial of the new shinier version might work for you

Take the hard drive out, use a hole punch to smack the main bearing out.

There should be a tape covered inspection hole, bang the punch through that.

Anything else is over kill.

 

This all seems like a lot of hard work to get rid of "stuff" it must be to get rid of some porn

Unless youve got something really serious you are bothered about one of the programs previously mentioned that overwrites the hard drive with crud will make the drive pretty unattractive to anyone unless they have a damn good reason for spending the time and effort to try and retrieve anything from it; I'm thinking GCHQ, FBI etc

 

Take the hard drive out......................... But go the extra mile and find a hotel and through it out the window................. Rock & Roll

Not porn funnily enough. It was a work computer and you never mix work with pleasure. ..
But does have fair bit of private health and financial stuff on it.

My mate who is a programmer says that the only way to really get rid of all the data is to burn it.

 

Once when the internet was quite new only my boss had it on his computer, we visited a "health site" while he was out and it loaded a small nude dancing lady onto the desktop screen and if you tried to click on it she just moved to another part of the screen, he had to get someone in to remove her

 

The nearest thing to porn when we were kids.

 

Our first computer was given to us and I had absolutely no idea how they worked. My first experience was it going so slow that I got frustrated and kicked it. Unfortunately I licked it really hard and it went through the back of the computer cabinet and an angry wife had to call a man in to fix the computer.
Second experience was 'health and safety' related. Was perusing some site whilst the wife was out cricking my neck examining the decor in the background when I thought a butterfly sort of thing was occurring on the screen (which I now know is a sign a file is downloading/being moved). All of a sudden a big tab on the task bar appeared saying 'Porn Cam'. Sheer panic ensued and I started to delete all sorts looking all over the place at files I never knew existed as I found images of ladies with no clothes on hidden in all different directories. I even deleted a file which turns out is really important for a computer to run.
An angry wife had to ring the computer man again who just grinned at me rather smugly as he worked on it.
