This is a bit of a spin-off from the "who has paid the most for their bus" thread. But it got me thinking.. im going for a bare metal re-spray on my bus. I will do some of the body filler myself. mostly the easy bits and if its straight forward, maybe some of the harder bits. The bus will be sprayed 2 tone, white on top and inside, then a colour on the bottom. but im just generally wondering is there a ball-park figure? i was quoted £3000 from a company nearby just for paint! if i did 100% of the bodywork. which is pretty bloody steep in my opinion.
from speaking to customers who I have spoke to about paint, you looking from around 2k up dependant on quality, Some people pay silly money I had one customer who paid 6.5k for prep and paint!! :-
So 2.5k to 3000 for paint and filler is an average price for a good job? If i could get a good job for 2500 id be well happy.
I paid £1800 all in. Not the best job in the world but very passable. He is a mate though so the old saying its not what you know it who I suppose. O and I forgot to add it took 6 months lol
i have the chance of a good sprayer doing mine for the cost of paint and a hundred pints of beer , i have to prep it though !
These figures are quite sobering when you're broke like me I think my planned 2013 respray could end up a DIY rollering ;(
A local guy who is very good 200 yards from my house quoted me £1,000 to paint my bus, it would have looked awesome & impressed everyone. He done my T4 it was an awesome job, striped down to bare body. I have chosen to go to Custom Classics in Barry. They quoted me £2,500 I have to do all the stripping myself & help with the prep work, the difference is that they will do the van to a very very high standard with 4 coats of base coat & 3 coats of lacquer, that's including some welding 90% of body shops would have filled over these areas. It also includes the shot blasting. From quotes I've had in the past prices range typically from £1000 to £5000. Basically £2,000 should get you a very nice job assuming you do a lot of the work yourself.
My mates a painter, a good one too. He quoted me £800 all in BUT, has to be done outside in good weather/summer as he left the company and changed careers. SO, im gonna do it myself, painted before with cans and it got marked well from a painter. I have a gun and compressor to use this time. Whatever the outcome, it will be better than what it is now. I really think people should try these things themselves cause £3000+ is an awful lot of money. But that depends on how you look at your bus. I just want a clean tidy and mechanically sound bus, not a show winner im worried to use.
