Ours is 584L, bought in Worksop after a workmate told me that he had heard of one for sale. It had been looked after mechanically as far as I could see but the outside was rattle can painted matt black up to the waist line. It had had a new wheel arch and the owners young son had sprayed it to stop the new panel rusting....and then did the rest to match! Under the black I found the Sumatra Green so had the outside restored to original condition. The inside is all original and very good. At a car gathering a couple of years ago I met an earlier owner who rescued him from somewhere near Rugby. Lenny as the bus was christened lives in Rotherham/Sheffield near J31 of the M1.

Photo of a photo. 1973 Westy Continental, RHD. It was blue inside too. It's N reg because it was bought in uk, sent immediately to NZ for someone's 2 year tour, then sent back to UK and finally registered.

We didn't like the colour, particularly blue inside so had it painted and a few minor repairs.

Then it gradually fell to pieces.

The top half was still good but the bottom 12" was terrible. This time I fixed it myself.
Got the arches and door shuts lovely. My best ever.

I have full provenance of Herman, due to the log book which came with his purchase.
All his PO's had him regularly serviced with the local VW dealership upto around 90k when I bought him.
I'm the only owner since and apart from a steering adjustment 20ys ago and bodywork, I've looked after him myself. Mileage is around 180k now.
He knows Northern Europe like the back of his bumper.
