I know bit of a nerdy question but .... How many RHD Westy Continentals are there on the forum currently being used and abused
Yep one here , I always liked the fact that they were built on a sunroof based window’d body not a van
AFAIK this one still exists. Our Wolf... He went up to Scotland after our custodianship back in 2008. His owners may be on here but we haven't seen him since... These are some of the places he took us We didn't travel much above 45 to be honest. Why would you need to when it's all about the journey.. Chip is a better bus in every way but this one forged the way of life we now lead.
Wow, registered close to mine. Do you know when and where yours was registered. I believe mine was registered in Oxford in early March 1973.
Nice bit of history , I need to find out abit more on mine altho I do know built in 73 but regd in 74 and I do know it travelled and camped in Spain@ least twice.Lovely to see the Crete travel stickers being married to a Greek lady it's interesting some journey that
Definitely Oxford registered. I can't remember exactly when but Mrs Monkey seems to think it was early on on the calendar year. Is yours the one within 10 or so digits of 949 coz I do recall at least one other bus, maybe 2, that are really close? Trying to trace their history is fun. We've got loads of pictures from the early 2000s but most are on 35mm film prints. He was owned before us by a landscape gardener who used him to transport his tools and materials about. The upholstery was filthy so we unpicked it all and washed it. It came up lovely! I used to have to travel to a big printing company who had works in Exeter and Paulton and saw the bus parked on the side of a road just outside Shepton Mallet. On one visit, it was up for sale. The rest is history in some respects and I can't honestly remember how the deal was done, with us living in Sheffield at the time. We arranged to collect him whilst away on a camping holiday in Dorset and drove him back to the campsite in Wool! I'm sure they weren't, but things like this seemed a bit more relaxed in the days before Facebook marketplace. Looking forward to reading about you making your own history with your bus. And what a great excuse to have a Grecian road trip with family already there. We just pointed south one day and made it up as we went along. I never ever stressed that bus and I think that's why he did so well. We had new shocks in Kalamata and had to wait about a week for those to be delivered via Athens. The road in to Kalamata used to be horrific. Tarmac over corrugations and that did for us. Now the roads on the Peloponnese are glass smooth from all the Euro investment. We spent a month on Crete and bounced up to Santorini for a few days before heading across to Bari and on to Naples. Here's a shot of Wolfie in Spain after we'd re registered him. Opening a business there meant we needed to plug into the very system the bus had originally encouraged us to leave! His final journey with us was back up through Spain and France to Sheffield once more where we met his new owner in a DIY store carpark and handed him over.
