I was recently at the Lake District and had loads of fun around the hills getting to one of the camp sites. Just wondered what you guys have done to your engines to make your life a bit easier? I’ve got a 1600 with dual 34’s, 123 Dizzy.
Yep you can dual carb and 123 a 1600 but it's still a 1600. 1776 is best bang for your buck starting where you are. 3 angle inlet valve job also adds a few more worthwhile HP while you're at it. ^ Most of those repliers up there ^ have Subaru engines. I have a 2.4L type-4 because I'm stupid (?) and like air cooled. Subaru is better and cheaper TBH.
So there are some pages that suggest fitting a deep sump, not for cooling as it is useless for that apparently but if you keep the amount of oil at the low end of the dipstick it results in more HP. As I understand it the crank isn’t sat in a pool of oil so less resistance and the oil pick up via the extension is the same. Has anyone tried this or is it rolling the dice on the life expectancy of your engine?
Well adjusted brakes, headlights and nerves of steel helps especially at night in those types of roads
Love it, no messing about. We need a fact or fiction section somewhere on here to debunk all these aircooled myths.
I thought you need oil splashing about in there to lubricate the cam and cool the pistons... But people do run dry sumps for more power so what do I know?
Surely if you've got dry sump, there are other oiling arrangements? Porsche engines are dry sump and don't seize up?
