Help! I've forgotten who said they had a stapler for door fabric they could bring to T/E's

Cheers :). The current door fabric is held on with screws with caps on , like on showers etc. I think they are original as they colour match the fabric. Not a clue what's behind them tho!

Are the staples to hold the door cards onto the door, or the fabric onto the doorcard? If it's the latter then why not use spray impact adhesive?

The latter, I'm only going on this way as I can see some staples already and thought that this was how it is done :)

  6. Don't pick..it won't get better..

I had a mk2 cortina, I covered with grey fur on the door cards in the early 90's..:chewie:
    That's sort of 70's shagtastic landmark stylie...

I did wonder as I read the thread. Ive just had a thought, is this quilted landmark doorcards?

Actually I don't think it makes any difference. On my plain doors I glued a thin scrim to the card, then cut the fabric oversize and laid the doorcards on it. Spray the edges of the back of the card and the overlapping material. Once the glue's dried snip the corner bits and tension and stick.

Putting fur on in the 90's!!! And I thought Barnsley was behind the times, I didn't realise Northampton was too :D

Yes, do you think it's different? I'm a bit worried with glue that if it sticks in the wrong place I will be pooked!

I would think the actual method of attachment would be the same in all cases. I think the staples you can see are a previous bodge and originally the covering would have been glued. I carefully glued very thin foam to the face of the doorcard and then trimmed it to size, including cutting out the various holes for winder and lock.
Then I placed that face down onto my vinyl (which was also face down). Trim the vinyl until it's about two or three inches bigger all round and spray contact adhesive on the vinyl and doorcard. You're working on the backs of both things so you can be generous with the glue.
Have a cup of tea while the glue dries.
Start on the straight edges and pull and stick the vinyl (or other material) onto the rear of the card. When you get to the corners cut the material so you can stick it in little sections and prevent it bulging up. The tighter the radius of the corner the more cuts you need to make.
The cuts should go almost (but not quite) up to the doorcard.
To do the winder and lock hole spray the material and the doorcard then cut an X in the material and pull it through the hole and glue to the back.

It's a lot easier to do than it is to explain. I'd got halfway through this explanation and then thought it would have been easier to just find a YouTube link and post that instead. :)

    Thanks @sANDYbAY :)

I'm at work now so will watch the video this evening. I'm using the old door material so will have to use whatever size it is. The door cards are blown and curling out so am putting new ones on. Will attempt at T/Es as long as @paul2590 remembers to bring them:)

  15. Blown and Curling? They did the conveyancing on our house. Very helpful.
