Has the market for T2's peaked?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by bryandsi, Jun 21, 2017.

  1. I'm selling my bus to help fund my son through a college course he can't get a loan for and reckon that the money isn't there for the level of price we have been used to. Looking at eBay and others the prices do seem lower than last year for good vans, although oddly imports needing work seem to be highly priced as do buses that have been "fully restored".

Am about to eBay mine at below 10k- never welded and ready to camp ( I'll lower the price on here too!)

Am I right, has the bottom dropped out of the market ??

When Mrs C asks how much our house is worth I tell her its worth what someone is willing to pay.
The market does seem flat at the moment but if someone wants one and has the cash they will pay whatever they feel they need to.
If I was to buy again ( after 10 years of doing my rot box ) I would go into it different but so would everyone else on that well worn path.
30 years ago I bought a Triumph Stag and then saw em shoot up to 25k and fall back below 10k. When I sold it with good rebuild no rot strong engine I got 7k 10 years ago.
There will always be ups and downs it just depends how the market is when you sell.

  3. Seems to be a level for most bays, early going for more than a late one, good ones seem to be close to ones needing work and then there's Jamie Olivers ex split asking price of £156.000. There was a tin top for sale at Alive Vdubbin last week needing paint, welding and a complete inside, asking price £17.000!

  4. People are thinking before spending as it's all a bit weird out there at the mo.

Could be uncertainty with Brexit may be the issue so folk are holding onto their cash.

  6. Could be the the classic car investment bubble is about to go pop again...

I'll pay £10 can I have your house?

Everything has a market value, what people are willing to pay is what it's worth or generally what they are selling for, any more they don't sell, I've just sold my bay for a little short of £15k, probably one of the nicest bays about, I could have put it up for £30k but I wouldn't have sold it, I thought the market was dropping last year personally, it's a time thing too, people grow into them and out of them, prices fluctuate according, I'm pleased to have sold my quickly and easily for the price I was after, I think the market is very very slow for bays

  10. Yep, could be right - all my vehicles I have because I like them or use them irrespective of value - have never understood buying cars et al as investment - they are there to be used. That said I'd like to sell my bus for what I paid for it - you never get back what you spend on them to make them "yours" whether that's restoration or bits and bobs - but needs must for me at the moment!!

  16. I love this one
    I payed £2k for mine
    I've spent loads
And I don't expect to get any more money back than that really considering what I've spent
    it is what it is
And I've had fun over the 22 years with this one
And the one before that for 4 years
I never thought it as an investment

If the rrs falls out out of the market then it will be good
Then we could be like any other classic car owners
Without this scene tax volkwagen hype nonsense
Who really makes money out of these vehicles these days anyway ? Dealers and criminals!!
But then I've been told more than once I know nothing .......carry on

  19. About two years ago yes, apart from the occasional fat cat city type who has too much bonus and fools and their money are easily parted.

I still see crazy asking prices but you can bet that's not even close to the selling price, unless you're prepared to stick 16K as an asking price on a van and wait a year or two in which case that might be what you get.

  20. My van needs a new engine and I was torn between selling it as is or getting a new engine and keeping it. The market for our vans has cooled and mine without an engine would only be worth a little more than the rust buckets folks are still buying.

I am lucky that I don't need to sell for the money. Its a funny thing, as @lost-en-france says when you get old, the money loses its meaning and fun is all you need.

So, my mind is now made up I am keeping the van.

Just taking my time to get a decent engine.
