Genuine Jack

  1. Any of you guys have a genuine jack in your bus, or does anyone use any other kind of scissor jack?

Have not got a jack in the bus yet, so at the moment If I get a flat, I will be waiting for the RAC :(

Just want to know what everyone has, and do I need to buy a genuine one?

  2. genuine one works well as long as your jacking points are solid... if not you get a crunching noise, and your van doesn't lift up

  3. Get your jacking points in shape and use the Brazilian T2 scissor jack - works very well. The original Bilstein is fine, but a bit unstable.

  4. I carry a hydraulic bottle jack sourced from machine Mart.

  5. ^^^that
bottle jacks are ace and take up no room

  6. We have the stand-up type jack in ours although luckily (touch wood) never had to use it. Are these types of jacks no good, unsafe, too difficult?

i've got the original jack in the van but i also have a small bottle jack....just need to carry a spare and all is ood.

  8. I have two originals and neither work to actually lift the van off the ground. Thinking of getting an exhaust jack for the summer, but do have a trolley jack in the garage which almost weighs as much as the van.

  9. Another vote here for the bottle jack. I've got a 4 tonne one in my van, which only cost about 15 quid from Machine Mart. I've actually got two, because if I ever need to lift the entire front or back of the van off the ground, they're ideal. Only carry one in the van though.

  10. I have a bottle jack too fits nice behind the battery next to a ltr of oil and spanner to undo the battery nuts, just incase spot i call it.

  11. does the small surface area of the lifting pad on the bottle jack put too much pressure in one place?

I will take a look on machine mart. Is 4 tonne the correct one to go for?

Are you not worried that things may fall over here into the engine or arc on the battery?

I have original Bilstein (however you spell it). It fits in a clip under the passenger seat which is handy.

I gave it a go the other day and it works a treat, but it seems designed only to be upright once the vehicle's jacked up? Before this it's easy to imagine the bottom of the jack slipping.

  15. The original jack is OK for tyre changing if you trust your jacking points, but I feel safer with a 1 1/2 tonne bottle jack under one of the axles. An unladen bus is about 1 1/2 tonnes but you are only going to pick up one corner at a time for most jobs.
