gear shift coupling

  1. Hello Diddyman,on the way home from holiday i changed down through the gears
only to find the gear lever had gone slack.I managed to get first and crawl along to a lay by.Once jacked up i found that the little bolt had fallen out that fits the coupling to the shaft. So after a bit toolbox rummaging we managed to get home.I treated the bus to a new trigger shifter and one of these couplings and all is now fab, just put some lockwire through the hole in the head of the bolt so as to prevent it from happening to you.

  2. I've got one of these to go with the 091 box when it goes in with the scooby conversion.

  3. Having never driven my bus, I've not got a clue what the condition of the original is like ....it looks ok but thought I'd change all the bits before the box goes back to be sure

  4. If your original is in good fettle then use that dude the modern ones fall apart after a while

  5. I fitted this exact item about a month ago - previous to this I had used a standard replacement one from VWH or JK (can't remember who) and it was useless - the long screw that bolts into the tube never tightened up.
This new poly one is excellent and the gear change is much improved

  6. I fitted the exact same one and mine also fell apart on way to newquay , so it last about 170 miles. Absolute doggy doo.

  7. :headscratch2: some say good some say bad

..........not sure what to do now ;D

  8. I had a replacement one fall apart, so have just replaced that with the neoprene one and whilst fitting it I put a shed load of threadlock on the self tapping screw that runs through it, all in all pretty naff design and a nut n bolt with a nylock would be better, that said the rubber or neoprene stuff both feel the same to change gear with so its only longevity that will show which is better, provided that bliddy bolt stays in there this time.

  9. I haven't seen this exact one, but every other coupling I have seen has been absolutely rubbish quality - the metal is cheap and bendy and the holes are in the wrong place. I re-used the metal from my old coupling and just swapped over the rubber on mine as the old rubber was knackered.

  10. thanks guys, I might use the old one and fit the poly urathane parts to that ........do you know if you can get the poly bits separatly or do you have to buy the whole thing?

  11. You have to buy the whole thing... just check the old one for play between the cage, and the sleeved section that goes on the box... it should be solid... I've seen so many brand new ones that have play in them...
