Update : underslung tank taken off completely so that it can be inspected and decision made for long term.

@F_Pantos, I now have a 7kg butane tank under the sink with a standard cylinder valve (28mbar) attached. The Berlin hob lights up without any issue and both rings burn well. Will make sure van is well ventilated

  4. Let me know if you manage to identify that thread, please. Likewise, if I get there first, I'll post here:thumbsup:

Ideally you need a drop vent in the floor Chris with gas being heavier and settling if you have an undetected leak.
I'm sure you know that, but for the sake of being safe, others may not:thumbsup:

Thanks Neil. My temporary vent for this weekend is the hole that the waste water pipe goes out off....big hole in floor, right next to tank:thumbsup:

  7. @Chrisd How did you connect your 7kg bottle's regulator to your gas hob etc?

Did you plug the reg into the original pipe that connected between the underslung Westy tank and the Bus' gas system?

    Thanks

Andrew, yes I connected the new pipe into the metal pipe coming out of the hob this abandoning the whole system from the external pipe to the hob. The 7kg takes up less space than I thought and so I have not lost a lot of cupboard room. :)

I've got quite a wide hole in the floor where the water pipe drains our and that is providing a route for gas to escape, if needed. I want to look at other systems to see if there is something more I should do, but a gas chap I know looked at what I had done and gave the

  9. Ah, ok, thanks. I had this cunning plan that I could remove the tank leaving the original rubber hose behind and then connect a bottle's reg into that, until the new tank gets fitted.

But that doesn't sound quite like what you did?

If I understand, you abandoned the rubber hose too, along with the tank.

What I had was hob stubby connector - flexible pipe from hob to floor - metal pipe from floor to underslung tank.

I could have used the old flexible pipe, but I bought a new flexible pipe to fit between the regulator on the 7kg cylinder and the hob.

  11. That sounds different to my set up. My tank connects into the Bus via a rubber hose that has fittings on either end, @pkrboo thinks these are NPT.

I just want to connect a bottle to the original hose at the tank end.

OK, so the bottle (904) will be under the Bus when camped up, but it's safe enough there leak wise.

  12. Continued....

The annoying thing is, I think I'd have to cut the connector from the rubber pipe at the tank end to push in a standard regulator's pigtail. Now, for some unknown reason I can't bring myself to do that, even tho' I likely never use this tank again now it's empty.

  14. Yes, the external hose you can see on your picture is rubber on mine. I was thinking I could use it to connect a bottle.

Until such times as a more permanent solution gets fitted.

  15. Continued...

Standard gas hose is 9mm, I believe 3/8" refers to the internal diameter, if so, a standard regulator's barb should fit fine, within a baw hair.

I found a thread on The Samba where one of these tanks has been refurbed for less than a new tank, but it's 10 years old and all the parts listed in the thread are in the US, so not so easy to get hold of and shipping and duty must be considered.

  18. Interestingly, on one of the linked threads a poster says the LPG station were unwilling to fill his tank until the fitting were renewed to ones of modern standards.
