Fuel Problem T25 Aircooled Petrol

  1. Hi, i'm new to the volkswagen scene and hopefully going to be around for quite a bit. Anyway, bought a T25 Aircooled 1.6 petrol 1981 a few weeks ago off Ebay, drove it home 300 miles just near my house it broke down, I was low on petrol so thought this must be the reason. Next day filled my can up and still wouldn't start, called AA out, they reckoned a fault with fuel pump so had it towed to garage. They suggested a new fuel pump, had a 12v electric one fitted so bought a new one, got it fixed and fine.
Done about 60 miles since, been 2 days since I started it, started it this morning, 1st time no problem, left it to tick over and it stopped, tried to start it again but started a bit but couldn't get the revs high enough to keep it going, kept trying to start it, backfired a couple of times but to no avail.
Now contemplating having it towed again to garage but if anyone can point me in the right direction regarding fault finding i'd be most grateful. And the guy who sold me the vehicle stated this model is most reliable :(
    Cheers

  2. do a small service yourself , distributor cup, rotor, ignition cables. see how it goes then. If you have points change them too.

  3. are you sure its a 1.6 petrol? i didn't think they put type 1 engines into the T25's i thought it was a type 4.

  4. According to the log book it is!!

  5. There was a very limited 1.6 aircooled engine fitted to the t25 . Check all the basics like mentioned points ect there us also the possibilty of a fuel blockage or crap in the lines
