Anyone run a bus round on foreign plates before getting it UK reg'd, and if so did you get pulled by the fuzz?
I'm so fed up of the pickup sitting on the drive, it's going to be at least another 15 working days before I get a registration number and then we're off on holiday for 17 days.
I want to drive it just locally to shake it down and get it running right, and take some carp to the tip :D
Can't run it with no plates, can't put the camper plates on cos that would show up as no tax MOT or insurance!!
I know what it's Swedish number was so was thinking of making up some white plates with black numbers, it's MOT'd and Insured on its chassis number , I've even sent a cheque to dvla for the tax!
What's the worst that could happen ?

  2. you could prob speed n get across dartford crossin for free :D

  7. I drove my Canadian import around on California plates for a while and then swapped for Montana state plates after that until my UK reg came through, never got stopped and when UK reg came through I made paper plates and stuck them in the rear window and kept the USA plates on till I'd ordered my pressed UK plates. Police aren't bothered with old buses unless it looks a wreck I wouldn't worry.

I did it with the Westy for a week when it had its first mot (done by chassis number) with no hassle, it was also insured on the chassis number too..

Nosy neighbor knocked on my door and told me I shouldn't be driving it though, almost told her to f...k off.
    Should have in afterthought.

    Yeh you should :D
Swedish plates are white with black letters aren't they?

  17. Back in 1977, used our bus for 6 months on Nigerian plates back here.
Then in 1989 used the bus on Dubai plates for 6 months, over here.
I was never bothered by the police as both times the vehicle was on visitor status,
either being exported, or finally taking up UK registration.
