I haven’t got it , I’m a right scruffy , disorganised , lazy sod.... but it takes a lot of thinking , preparation and co ordination to be that way :D

You can to a degree turn it in to a strength.

If you have time, YouTube pole vaulters hands before they set off for a jump.

Many tennis players bounce the ball or spin their racket a certain number of times or they have to reset and start all over, some will even play a foul shot to reset on each serve.

Kickers in rugby, golfers, even those football players that have to always clear something off the floor before they take penalties.

People that have a set routine before they leave to play a game, the ones that have to be last out of the changing room.

I asked a sports psychologist why it’s so prevalent and he told me that for many repeatable sports movements (golf swing, tennis serve, penalty kick etc) it’s taught as a coping mechanism....so ironically something deemed an illness in the clinical area of mental health, is used as a tool in performance sports psychology.

I suspect most people’s superstitions (wearing a lucky tie for an interview, using only the one wrench on compression joints, sitting in the same seat on the bus etc) are a mild form of OCD.

From my experience it’s the opposite where you are deliberately both disorganised and scruffy to try and hold your ground.

I run big programmes of work for a living, I let it rip on that as I find it a strength....the attention to detail bit.

    See?
Like I said, everyone has it to some degree or another!
    You told me they never.
    Are you REALLY sure?

(The pic of the moon in your avatar, is at the wrong angle, for this time of year, by the way.).

I didn’t tell you they never...

As for the pic....it’s the maverick in me, I see a rule and I immediately want to break it...a rebel.

As long as the rule means I don’t have to step on the lines between paving slabs I’m a regular Che Guevara...

I never break rules, just bend them.
I like to ‘ walk through life, by the beat of my own drum’, every chance I get!

As long as you only put each foot on the ground on the backbeat, leaving each step on your heel, and not stepping on any cracks.....I’m with you brother....!

  11. I hoovered my carpet in the boot of my car once and put stripes on it..... just like my lawn.

All the clothes in my wardrobe are organised in colour order.

My shoes are put away in boxes.

I wipe down the shower every time I use it and dry it off.

I have no emails in my inbox..... all read and deleted or filed

I like having nothing in my Sky recordings planner.

Before lockdown I had to do parkrun every week.

I am uncomfortable if things aren’t ordered, and put away neatly in cupboards.

I get anxious if there is no plan.

I stick with things I like. Change is not good, despite what people say.

I polish the stainless exhaust on my classic car and the campervan.

Anyway that’s just me. A bit odd?.......maybe, but I manage.

  12. I have severe OCD. Currently under Maudsley clinics and have a team of support workers on a weekly basis. Had it all my life, high genetic predisposition. Ruined my career and relationships but still fighting on . Effects everything I do but not giving up and quite open about it and accept it is just part of me. I do however poke fun at myself and my illness and just accept it for what it is!!
