Why, when they are interviewing families requiring a food parcel, do they interview people that make Bazza and @Suss look slim?

  2. This is something that’s always confused me. Generally I find that in the supermarket, the raw ingredients are cheaper than processed alternatives. Fresh veg and fruit etc aren’t that expensive compared to a microwave meal.

so why are so many of the single mother chavs I see so fat with fat kids?

When I’ve been skint in my life, and believe me I’ve been proper skint, like going through my vans ashtray to scrape together enough money to buy something to eat skint. I’ve not been buying high fat processed junk foot. I bought cheap stuff that was filling.

im sure I’m missing something here.

  6. I don't think they've ever learned to cook. They just don't know how to do it.

A lot to be said for old-school Domestic Science classes...

It's because they are too bone idle to prepare healthy food, take regular exercise and get a bloody job. Much easier to stock up on crisps and lager and watch daytime TV.

  9. Apart from the measly amount of food the profiteering firms are supplying, maybe a lot of the needy folks just don't cook and are unable to prepare meals from scratch. The school dinners their kids would have had, would be good hearty meals and the parents would not be preparing them, so never learn anything. Its easy for them.

No doubt the parents would now be offered cash or vouchers and buy expensive ready meals or junk food, so the money or vouchers won't go very far.

Its not the kids fault and they do need feeding, I blame the parents. They have probably never learned to manage on a tight budget and cook meals from cheap basic ingredients. Parents don't cook so kids don't learn either, its a shame.

Government is poor at managing our money and keep throwing money at projects and trust the rip off merchants who cash in and make fat profits out of other's misery. I hope these firms and their rich directors get named and shamed. Its a disgrace but is yet another example of rip off Britain.

If you had money in your ashtray you weren’t skint , when you gone a week without eating a meal as there’s no money and you’ve borrowed off everyone you can are behind on your rent electricity etc and have no source of income you’re on your way to being skint, then need food for children too

My mum taught me... How to manage on very little, how to cook and use every bit.

I remember her teaching me.. "buy a bit of mince, 80p worth. Divide in 3 and freeze. 1 day chilli, next day shepherds pie, next day mince onion or curry."
    Bless her.

It did teach me a lot though and I try to teach my daughter what I see as important..... How to cook, iron a shirt, wash clothes e. T. C.

Why oh why they don't teach it at school still beggers belief.

mine have both done it , I’ve been to the infants school to have Ethans jam and banana sandwiches he invented when he was around 6, he’s cooked every week at secondary school, I did cookery and needlework, your school must be pretty unusual to have zero cookery , home economics , nutrition etc , my children have done cooking or food based education since they started.

  20. You ask why they don't teach it at school, but you've already answered your question, it's the sort of thing any decent parent teaches their children at home.
