i once bought a job lot of 500 pairs of flip flops for £30 and sold them all on ebay for £2 a pair ,i hate flip flops .

Well how are someone's feet going to get sweaty in flip flops anyway? :
I love flip flops and it's you shoe people who have all the sweaty, stinky, hammer toe feet with 6 kinds of fungus growing between your toes and under your nails.
Our feet breathe and we are more inclined to give ourselves pedicures since our little piggies are hanging out for all to see.
Flip flops, sandals, Birkenstocks, all good at any age. Crocs feel wonderful. But wear them only around the house and tell no one.
Priority- order a pair of Birks post-haste. They really do conform to the shape of your foot and fit like no other shoe. And they may be a bit pricey, but I think they will resole them free for as long as you own them, so what the Hell. They're gonna last longer than you will. How much is that worth?
I also like Minnetonka's fringed ankle-high boots. (moccasins) The fringe is a bit much so I cut it off, but they feel like you're barefoot, they breathe so well you don't even need socks, (they basically are leather socks with a thin sole) and they are very well made. Your feet won't get hot or sweaty in them ever. I don't even think to remove them when I get home from work. I totally forget they are on my feet.
Some may think moccasins a bit odd but the bottom line is, wear whatever the Hell makes you happy and comfortable.

How do you account for that stupid and annoying 'slapping' noise flip flop wearers make when walking then? That's what really annoys me...oh and how every small stone gets lodged in your toes and suddenly becomes a massive theatrical event to get rid of it

I think some people who wear flip flops may, unconsciously or otherwise, actually enjoy the sound, so they make them smack harder. They're like people who incessantly pop their gum. Or maybe they're afraid they're going to fall off so they're gripping too hard with their toes. (translation-haven't learned how to walk in flip-flops yet) But you're right. It isn't cute, the gum nor the slapping feet.
Mine rarely make a sound. I can't be the only one. Maybe the loud flip-flops are just more noticeable to you.
That stone lodging business is a rare but funny thing. One would think that with nothing but a flat piece of rubber and a single strap that a stone would just fly right out with the slightest tip. But noooooo. Somehow, against all odds as well as the laws of nature, a single pebble can hang on like a bronco busting spider monkey on a rodeo piglet.
When it happens to me I tend to laugh at the absurdity of it all, but God forbid I should be standing next to a teenage girl with a stone in her flip-flop. Little shrieking barrels of drama, they are. :

I wear my lovely Fat Face flip flops, and I wear my Crocs with pride. I was unsure about them when they came out, but then I found out there was a facebook page dedicated to the hatred of them, so that was the only recommendation I needed... ;D

I'm sorry, just to be clear, are you saying Crocs are cheerful or that they are homosexual?

I'll second that!! i was never a fan of the flip flop, however after living in Australia for a couple of years they are the way forward, let your feet breath

But they're sooOOoo comfortable! And they last forever.
I like flip-flops too, but am I the only one who feels a bit resentful about having to pay $40 for 7 pennies worth of foam rubber with a bit of dog leash embedded in it? ???

I actually have the plans for how to make tire sandals in my computer. I hear they are comfortable and good for at least 10,000 miles.

These are the ultimate flip-flops:

Birkenstock. There is no substitute.

They also make some interesting wool clogs that are nice for cool dewy conditions.

Why not? I paid $40 for my average flip-flops and they came apart 2 weeks later. I've had to re-glue them twice.
For about $60 more, the Birks will probably last at least 20 years and be better looking and more comfortable doing it.
