  1. Read up on that stretch of canal. Shame its shut, although google street view sees it open, either way it looks a nice spot and quiet. :thumbsup:

  4. There is a campsite there too but its bloody expensive especially as the pubs closed. Open all year to.

  5. No way! That's you :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::D

    Me and my OH always comment on it when we pass as its a nice one. Westy too, right? Makes us want our Devon to be finished.

    If you ever pop into Wickes for bits, she is the mad Scottish lady :thumbsup:

  6. Only a few minutes away at the only end of Grantham so day fishing suits me. Looks like a packed lunch it is then.

  9. If you go North from Denton on the map above on Casthorpe Rd, before you go over the canal there is a right turn down a pot holed track to Denton Wharf. Its lovely down there by the canal. I was there this afternoon walking the dog and we often go there in the Summer evenings in the van for picnic...

  10. Ah right, OK. The area itself looks great, peaceful and out the way.

    Do you mean here? opposite where it says Old Beck

    Canal pub by a lock I guess be the Rutland Arms known locally as the Dirty Duck but I did hee it's closed:eek:. Between there and grantham all along the canal is good fishing if numbers is a judgement (I don't fish).

  16. If you want to be safe, best to fish at a managed fishery like Frant Lakes where you have onsite staff and security. In the old days I used to fish in stretches of river where you wouldnt see anyone else all day, peaceful but if you slipped and fell in that would be that.

    At a managed fishery you would get toilets, cafe, tackle shop etc. and maybe a hot breakfast delivered to your swim. Thats modern fishing and I like it. I do Frant lakes and others around Kent and Sussex and many of them you could park your van close to your swim.

    These places are a business and they want their customers to enjoy the experience and keep coming back.

  17. I kinda like the natural feel of a river and canal but lately what with my health being poor and rivers being emptied for peoples dinner, I do think you're right. I guess I would relax more and the toilet is a big thing for me.

    I have always been nervous for some reason going to a fishery

  18. I'll stick to Fly fishing , much safer
