If you head up to Newark, Kelham Hall has fishing spots and platforms to set out on. Nice setting too!

  9. Safe ?
How dangerous is fishing these days ?
I packed it in 5 years ago - not a minute too soon by the sound of things , scarey things those riverbanks ...

I went to Bottesford as a callow youth . Great fishing on the canal , somewhwere just below a lock , opposite a pub .
Our kid caught a massive Perch , but i trumped him by fishing out the year old son/daughter of the landlord who escaped and toddled into the navvie ...

I kid you not - would have drowned if we hadn`t been taunting fish .

I'll tell you how dangerous fishing can be, I went fishing in the summer to a lake not far from Guildford, 3 blokes fishing the far end of the lake were fired at by local youths with air guns

  15. WOW - Really , d`you reckon that`s the place ??
The lawn ran behind the pub and along the canal . Our kid , who was fishing the opposite side suddenly started shouting and pointing .
I dragged the nipper out and delivered it back to the parents who , to be fair , were ratarsed and didn`t really realise i`d just saved their kid .
No fuss , went back to the canal and carried on Gudgeon bashing ...
Must be 40 years ago now

  16. Why not buy your own fishery. I noticed that Len at Strawberry Fields carp fishery near me is selling up and retiring. Wish I had 1.5 million as it is a fantastic place. He has carp over 55lb but thankfully I never hooked any of those big buggers, wouldn't be able to cope with that. My best so far is 27lb at Frant Lakes. Best at Strawberry fields was 23lb.

Mind you, you would need some building skills as the bungalow doesn't look finished to me.

    Enjoy your fishing.

  17. buying somewhere like that in france would be much cheaper and catfish out their as well as carp , but i dont like snails much :D Nice fish youve taken their though . Have you ever fly fished at daltreys place nr heathfield ?

  18. Around here in Slough, not uncommon to get mugged for your gear. I have had the local do what you likeys get a bit full on, or young lads who just wanna flex their muscles.
I can handle myself, believe that, but I would rather be left in peace. Why I now travel to fishing spots that are recommended.

  19. There is a fairly nice red Bay opposite Aldi whenever I come in that way.

  20. Can't think of any other pubs that are beside the Grantham Canal and its closest to Botto...
