  1. When i bought my van it came with a 500ml fairly liquid bottle for oil, which apparently is the amount of oil you need to top it up from min to max on the dipstick.
That would costs much less, you'd have to wash it out well first, but it makes it easy to squirt the oil down the filler neck.

Just drive it...the more you drive it,the more it will go wrong, the more it goes wrong, the more you will learn about fixing it.The more you fix it,the less it will go wrong, the less times it dont go wrong, the more you will drive it.
    Simple really...

    Oh,and a bit of advice...

Buy or aquire TWO Haynes manuals for your bus...One for the garage, that you dont mind getting covered in oil and other rubbish...and one to keep in the house next to the toilet, for those moments when 'It dosnt hurt to do a bit of revision'...

  3. Is there actually any evidence of an AA man really fixing a bus, you know so it like actually works and him sending a happy family on their way with a salute? Or do they just scratch their heads and tow you home?

  4. Drive it drive it drive it.

Nothing builds confidence more than experience. My old bug does a lot of mileage and I don't carry any tools- just fags, an emergency hip flask and a phone charger. Doesn't really break down any more.

If you've just finished the bus you need to get through that "shakedown" period, where everything that's going to break, breaks. After that you're golden.

  5. already been told about the beer

  6. A bit of serious advise to prepare your bay for its trip on Saturday.
Use it today, tomorrow and Friday.
Potter down to the shops, drive it to the garage for fuel, go and buy an evening paper, drive to a country pub for an hour.
Get used to the bay, get familiar with the noise, the smell, the rattles and give it a good shake down, then you'll be calmer
and better placed to identify anything that isn't ticketty boo when you are a long, frightening way from home.

  9. Must admit I was a bit suspicious! I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, we all have our moments of clear thinking occasionally:D

  10. Not AA but RAC - we lost our brakes after coming off the M6 with smoke coming from the rear drums. Stopped in a layby and phoned the RAC - they arrived within 1/2 hour and by then the brakes had cooled and pedal had come back . But he wouldn't let me continue - instead he jacked it up took wheels and brake drums off - cleaned everything up ( rust from backplate had made them stick on) and put it all back. Took him 1/2 hour for the brake service - and then made me take it on a test run before he signed it off - brilliant service.

  11. I'm in the same boat, the current Mrs Fil6 has asked me many times, have you got the breakdown kit ready (spanners, socket set, fuses, coil etc etc) I turn round to her and say "and what would I use them for.... as if I know how to repair the bus".

I go on my first camping trip Friday morning down to Poole for 3 nights.

Good luck and enjoy, I know I will :D:thumbsup:
