  1. we recently bought a t2 ( 1973). we think it has a type 4 twin carb engine... does run but back fires and the carb lights up, which i'm sure is not a good thing, being new to all this what could it be please. still looking into what engine it actually is as the seller seemed to think that it is a porche 911 2.0 litre engine. any advice great recieved :)

  2. The carb lights up!!!!!!!

Not good... Can you put some pics up or a video link of the engine running. Never heard of a carb lighting up as this runs the fuel and air mix.

  3. What code is the engine? Start with the number off the fan housing...

    And you probably mean 914

  4. Stick up a pic of the engine.

To sort it out, start with the basics, tappets, ignition timing, and a check for air leaks round the mainfolds.

  5. [IMG] hope this is ok. this is the best i can get for now :)

  6. It's a type 4 engine... it is the same as they used in the porsche 914s, but less HP!!

flames up the carbs suggest an air leak on the manifolds, inlet valves that aren't shutting properly, or poorly jetted carbs (lean)

  7. If its a 914, shouldn't it have a breather to the right in that pic?

  8. I thought this post was about curry :)

  10. thanks for all the input, greatly recieved, will be onto it in the morning no doubt... on a mission to try and find dry storage before the inevitable bad weather...might seem like another stupid question but how can i find out for definate which engine this is please, am i looking for certain things on the engine for instance?

  12. thank you..... :D

  14. does the bus actually run? mine only lit up and back fired when I made a right pigs ear of the timing (i.e dizzy on 180 out or HT leads in all the wrong places).

If it was my bus, Id also move the coil back to where they normaly reside.
