We pay a lot for tyres. I have a mate who buys 50 at a time and the prices he pays make me cross! Real decent brand tyres at £30 a pop inc VAT.

  2. 67db is quiet aswell and its the fully fitted price.

Also to make you feel better my 18" alloys on my Tigunan need to be replaced and they will cost me 500 quid plus!!!!

  3. Bloke down the road from me has 35" off road tyres on a Dodge Ram pickup and paid £900 each for them.tuesday_wildchild

I'm pee'd off too, I had a nice pair of Michelins on the front of the Golf. They did some daytime resurfacing on the route to work and in the dark on the way home I hit what was effectively a kirb at 40mph and fooked both front tyres and probably the wheels too I haven't looked. My mate hit it at 70 and blew both fronts. They'd forgotten to put a fillet in where the dug out bit ended. :(

  5. Can't you claim?

  6. Yeah, but look on the bright side the car will feel fantastic with 4 new tyres. If you're really skint then part-worns are always good.

Wasn't it @Joker that took his bust wheel and gave it to the council receptionist as some form of claim? Maybe that's an option?

  8. That'll be BWMs and their "run flat" tires!!

I've got my own tire machine now, so I just hunt around on the net for the cheapest I can find delivered for a good brand name tire!!

Thats the ones ..... run flat PHHRRRRR.. got a puncture once, drove 12 miles at a crawl and the run flat was toast.. just made it before it was ready to come off the rim.. I get twice the mileage from them now, she runs winter wheels and tyres for 5 months and the run flats though the summer ... saving a fortune as you dont get many miles out of them either.. by the time it needs a set it will trade in time :)

  12. Was about to swap my wife's car back to summer tyres yesterday, got them all out of the shed, and one had a screw wedged in the tread. Took out the screw and Psshshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the tyre starts to deflate. Too near the shoulder of the tyre to be fixed, so straight on the net for a replacement. Managed to find an identical replacement, Bridgestone tyre, only £48 fitted on Black Circles. Thank God Fiat 500 tyres are cheap.

    never take the screw out.

  14. Ordinarily, yes. However this is my wife's car, when it comes to tyres I take no chances and safety is number one priority. Hence buying a new Bridgestone for it to match the other 3.

Bung a tube in it? I had 3 side wall slow punctures in a fortnight in the van it was sending me crazy!

As my car is front wheel drive I change them two at a time to spread the cost throughout the year. Fronts wear out first so I move the rear, half worn ones to the front and put two new ones on the back and then repeat each time the fronts get low.
On my car the fronts get a particularly hard time as it spends its life doing three point turns and bay parking and by the time I remind the pupil again and again not to dry steer they've already dry steered.

tis actually illegal to fit a tube in a tubeless tyre though.

  19. Is it? Really? My old MOT'/tyre guy told me that he didn't have a problem with putting tubes into tubeless tyres. All that legality gumf, he told me, was just put out by the big tyre companies/tyre fitters (who are all part of some big tyre supplying/fitting syndicate, body, association, etc, etc) to con you into buying new tubeless tyres.
