My first LP album was Shout at the Devil by Motley Crue (a little known band from LA) in 1983 I paid $9 USD or 5.86p & had to hide it from my mum. If I was thinking I should have gotten the cassette instead Who knew that those new fangled square plastic things would have lasted?
Good grief I had a Saturday job in the Co-op... Round the corner from Bishops supermarket. I lived a short walk through the 'Dell' - a flashers' paradise - Woodstock Rd north. It was a great place to grow up in.
'emel! The terror of coming down the hill to the two-way roundabout! I had a lot of fun times there with my mate Neil from Berko. But my one painful memory of 'emel was having my hair highlighted blonde there - Chatlies Angels made a BIG impression - unfortunately all the highlights on one side joined up once the tinfoil was off, and made one a giant yellow stripe. For months I looked like I'd been sh*t on by a seagull.
The first single I bought was Popcorn by Hot Butter (early 70's) - cost me 50p - must have been just as decimalisation came in. I remember before then I used to go to my mates grandparents with him in Huddersfield and I would be given sixpence as a treat - used to get a quarter of sweets and I am sure I also got a packet of crisps to?
Do you mean he's the toff, or is he the scallywag on the far right, looking at the hat and thinking, "It will be mine......oh yes, it will be mine...." in a Wayne Campbell stylee
'emel started going way downhill in the early 80s. It's a right chav-infested pit now. We lived down the nice end in Boxmoor - I could see the rotating o range and yellow bobble on the circular car park from my bedroom window We used to ride our bikes down the big, v-shaped wooded valley in Snorbans, with 45º slopes. How we never killed ourselves I don't know. Berko girls were the height of sophistication in our fevered teenage minds - very classy...
mmm, used to ride our scooters over to Hemel from Luton at the weekends. Hatfield wasn't so good either. I recall 5 of us getting beaten up for our tickets for the 1979 2 tone Tour at the Poly. First album was The Specials from the Arndale Centre. Woolies probably. Still got it, can't play it
I believe they built a road tunnel under Hatfield, so you don't have to look at it any more as you're driving past.
Whoa! What years?! Mr Sexton? Mishta Shmiff? I started in the fearsome 4ft tall Mrs Kitching's class in I think 1970? left in, gad, er, 76? If you were anywhere near my years and lived in Marshalswick, then you were in love with Anne Harmsworth. Yes or no! Excuse us, the rest of TLB!
Aww, top days! I wonder if we ever went to the same parties. There was one epic affair in a barn near 'emel, went on the whole weekend. It was seared on my brain as I drank about a pint of Creme de Menthe. The only booze left. Big, big mistake. I can't remember how this thread started. I'm way off topic, aren't I.
