  1. Was asked by one of my kids how much an LP (one of those weird black round things) cost in the 70s. Couldn't for the life of me remember. 3 quid, maybe? Doesn't sound right. I do remember being outraged when Rothmans went up to a whopping 55p for 20...

    HMV a whopping £3
    And I paid £3.50 for Roxy Musics Country life albumn at Marble Arch London the day it was released in 1974, a weeks car cleaning money, happy days

    Singles were 50p in woolies, I bought David Bowies Jean Jeanie, Trex Telegram Sam and Roxy Musics Virginia Plain on the Same day in 1972, I saved my school dinner money for weeks to buy them

    I remember when an LP was £3.49 and I used to get paid £2 for working all day Saturday. I also remember when ten No6 were 10p :(

    Still, on a lighter note, I remember buying my first single, Ships in The Night, Bebop Deluxe for 45p :)

  13. i didnt smoke but was sent ta the machine ta get my dads woodbine n weights :rolleyes: he did give up eventually . Records i mainly listened to um on top of the pops or the radio , or round mates . My sister bought more than me . I was too bizzy saving for new bikes n a car :)
     
  14. No 6 were posh?! What kind of deprived childhood did you have ;)? We used to buy them from those big silver fag machines outside of shops (usually chained to the wall so people didn't nick them).

    I once pulled a bird from Wimbledon, not one of the rough bits from our estate, to impress her I bought 20 Peter Stuyvesant I think they cost about 35p I thought I was the bees knees

  19. My first LP was 17/6 if I remember correctly.
    You could get 3 singles for £1 = 6/8 when I was serving in a record shop in 1964.

  20. I used to get 10 bob for a Saturday in the motorcycle shop and another 10 bob from the lads there to get the fish an chips and all there condoms for the week , .The record shop in town would be shut when I finished.
