Fan carrier removal - Type 4

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by alpha981, Feb 10, 2013.

  1. I'm trying to remove the fan mount on the end of the crank (The bit with three legs and a locating dowel) I assume this is just a push on pull off, held in place with a woodruff key - is this correct? Mine seems to be stuck firmly in place...

not a key its a taper fit and locked on by the taper, undo the bolt in the middle and tap the side with a soft hammer, they usually come off pretty easy

  3. Thanks - I've given it a few whacks - I thought there was a key due to the slot I could see inside, I'll persevere and try a bit of heat

  4. lol I usually have to get a puller on them... taper and wood-ruff key usually means a damn tight fit!!

slowly slowly catchy monkey, never had to use a puller, just tappy tappy with my hogwarts hammer :)

  6. must be a big hammer ;)

I've tried just hammering several times, but tbh, the nose bearing in the case might not appreciate it too much

try a supporting hammer on the opposite side, doubles the whackyness of the hammer and takes the impact away from the bearing, win win

  8. Thanks all - the crank is out of the case so no worries about bearing damage - its off now though!! A bit more force persuaded it...

  9. Ah... the old track rod end trick... same principal
