Fan belt pulley scraping the alternator

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by stumpy77, Aug 14, 2014.

  1. As the title suggests. I've noticed over recent weeks the rear pulley half is catching the alternator casing. So much so its scribed a line approx 1-2mm deep. Anyone have an idea as to the cause or any likely tips to overcome this. I routinely check the belt tension having noticed it loose tension quite often. There are 10 shims split between the pulley half's and the front locking but.I assume this is correct and I'm not support to shim the rear half. Thanks as usual in advance.

  2. They don't usually need a shim behind them, but sometimes they do need something to space them out a little for clearance!!

  3. Cheers for that I will buy some more shims when I get chance

  4. They aren't the std size shims... you just need something that'll fit over the shaft once the woodruff key has been removed!! :)
