True, running it without any surplus seems strange, as does charitable donations being ring-fenced when the future of the " business " for want of a better word, is in doubt due to lack of money.
I'm aware the main sponsor has had a change of heart after many years, but many businesses have gone to the wall/ cut back operations over the last few years and shouldn't have been completely unexpected.

I’ve been on here for years and check in every day. I would hate to see it go. It’s good crack and also very helpful. I’ve never been on face book and probably never will, so would gladly pay a members fee.

Nay Mattlad, keep politicians out of this , if they learn about commoners like us working together for a financial solution ,you know what they will do .......... They will tax us .
Not only that they will tax the hundreds of thousand of other forums as well .
If they can tax a working mans sausage roll because its supplied warm ,dont think its beyond realms of possibilities to tax a forum .(if its not already)

Think it's taxed on how many posts you make, have you not had your tax bill yet?

I’m not sure the charitable donations are ‘ring fenced’ as you put it, it’s just that whilst we had a main sponsor covering all the costs, the smaller sponsor money could go to charity (a nice gesture, don’t you think?) and it was paid directly to that charity.
If a new main sponsor isn’t found by the time it’s required (well, a bit in advance obviously) then a re-jigging of the charitable donations could happen?
As Bern says, it ain’t enough as it stands, but it’s a start.
But the point is that whilst one donor pays all the fees, it’s easy….. but numerous random donors just requires a different organisational model. And someone has to run that.

Didn't @Baysearcher throw his hat in the ring for that already?

I think it was accompanied by a ‘if no one else will’ codicil ;)
We have a bit longer to find our sugar daddy….

If there’s no extra cash then there’s no charity donation.

  11. Assuming all things stay equal, all the small sponsors stay at the same fee, no hosting costs change, what is the actual shortfall?

    about £500

  13. Excellent thank you, so in actual fact to keep the site live for another year we don't need £1000, that makes it more achievable.

And I’ve just found out that we may be sorted. May be able to get annual costs down to £500 plus vat so in theory our current sponsors almost cover it. I’m going to take a look over the weekend.
