We'll have been married a year in May and have yet to have our honeymoon! We were originally planning on a 3 week road trip down the US West Coast over Christmas just gone, but put it back to summer for better weather. Now we're thinking that after all the money we've spent on Arthur we don't really wanna spend another couple of grand hiring a bus in the States, AND that he will probably never be as reliable as he is now given that there is barely anything mechanical that hasn't been fitted in the last 6 months. So, we've decided to change the US road trip to a European road trip in Arthur (with the boys and Pascale). Too excited for words! What I need is your tips for places to go, unmissable routes to take etc - we haven't planned beyond getting the dogs vaccinations as yet so flexible in where we travel. I fancy South of France - Carcassone etc in Basque Spain...Paley fancies Germany & the Alps...decisions yet to made so get your recommendations in!
I recommend Annecy down on the edge of the french alps. winter great for skiing etc, summer great for biking, parapente, water sports (not the naughty ones), climbing. great place
looking at the map, it looks like we may go for the ferry from Hull into Zeebrugge, through Belgium and down through SW Germany, into Switzerland and across S. of France (Carcassone for the rugby league of course) and then the NE corner of Spain to get the ferry back from Santander or Bilbao. Ooh a plan is starting to form O0
Whooooooooooohoooooooooooooo route is coming together now - the Germany part is going to include a trip to the town I spent my formative years in, and then a wander out to WOLFSBURG ;D ;D
Ooooo you've made me well jel now!!! We've been wondering where to go on our holibags and can't decide but you may have just helped make up my mind :-* Don't want to fly now cos I've just watched one of the Final Destination films so MH mentioned going to the Monaco Grand Prix in Colin (we would so beat the Virgin team around that track ^-^) and then heading on over to Carcassonne which is somewhere I've wanted to go for years after reading that Kate Mosse book Labyrinth!!! Very excited now just thinking about it ;D
I'd love to have a drive around Quiberon and Carnac in the summer, campervan styleee...we did go to Keycamps Carnac Grande Metarie a few years ago & loved the area! Its got me thinking
Carcasonne is a crazy place but well worth a visit. That route sounds awesome! CC goes to a place called Matienzo in Northern Spain for caving and he's talking about us doing a road trip through France this summer which is so exciting!
We spent 21 days in Europe in 2011. Luxembourg is a real must visit, Germany is also recommended:- http://thelatebay.com/index.php?topic=1328.0
