If its serviced and maintained theres absolutely no need for them. If there was, VW would have fitted them.

  8. He's right. I reckon the reason they never fitted a temp gauge (which they could easily have done) is that the think would be going up and down like a mad thing, terrifying customers...

  9. You forgot the loose women...

  10. a petrol gauge that works would be wonder full,

Though few and far between some modern cars only have a fuel gauge with maybe a warning light for high temp

  16. pends what car you had , but it is what it is a gauge , if you dont have one you cant gauge , aeroplanes have them . At least with a water cooled engine you have steam as a gauge . Why do people dish people for taking precautions or wanting to be aware thats what i dont understand ?

  19. I can't think of a 70s car that didn't have a (water) temp gauge. If VW had fitted an oil or (worse) head temp gauge, it would've been up and down like a friendly lady's underwear, terrifying customers. So they left it off, presumably.

  20. I've never worried about not having a temperature gauge, however I do think that it is a useful precautionary bit of kit that can be used to stave off a complete disaster. I wouldn't be too worried about it showing varying results but if it started to hit the red line I'd know I had a problem and be able to pull over before it was too late. Of course they're not necessary but to some desirable.
