Equality and minority. Fine, but what about the majority?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Baydreams, Dec 4, 2011.

  1. To me, the UK seems to have gone mad. It's right of course to promote equality and ensure the minority is always treated the same as the majority. But it's all we hear about now. It's as if the majority have somehow become 'the forgotten', so much so that it's a joke. My wife's a teacher and, the other day, I was reading the rules and regulations she has to follow in class. Not once was the majority (white, christian, British, able-bodied, etc, etc mentioned). Their sole interest is for the minority. Like I said, it's a good thing to promote, but it seems to have gone way over the top now (in the same way that Health and Safety regs have).

i agree , without going into detail because its a touchy subject , discrimination is the word at the route of it all , if someone is different , slower , older , younger , shorter ,different nationality , colour , religion , race etc we cannot discriminate -- it appears everyone is equal now and deserve equal standing even robbers , rapists and drug addicts have to be treated with kid gloves -- i don't really get that myself .

I am and i hope it comes across on here - a very tolerant and open minded person , but if someone says you cannot say/do or act a certain way , then iits red rag to a bull time .

Who is this Christian majority? And I presume you have some proof you can point to to back up what you are saying? I won't be holding my breath ::)

Oh right, so most people in this country attend Church then do they? I must have missed that statistic. As for these "rules", I presume this is a fairly hefty set of documents, most organisations policies and procedures are, and you say the white christian able bodied er, majority, don't get a mention? In what way exactly? So anyone who isn't in this majority does get a mention? Again, in what way exactly?

Not sure I can be bothered either....unless some proper proof rather than the usual vague anecdotal stuff is forthcoming

    too late.

i'm assuming that the documentation you refer is to do with Equality and Diversity (?), which obviously will focus on the 'minorities'. it is a shame that this is still the case, but until we have a society where all are considered and treated equally, then we will have policies and documentation reminding people how a civilised tolerant society need to behave.

as for H&S regs... they haven't "gone mad", they save lives, limbs and keep people safe. the problem lies when people get lazy; can't be arsed to do something and therefore BLAME H&S. I come up against this constantly from members of staff and when they tell me "can't do it. 'ealth n safety" i simply ask to see the risk assessment that HAD to have been produced to arrive at this conclusion. usually, there is a way of doing the task safely and we find it.

look on the HSE's website, they debunk the tabloid, sensationalist myths of "H&S gorn maad". :)

  13. My "opinion" i would not dream of living in another country with the expectation that they should adopt my preferences or change their laws to suit my needs. If you want them you should stay where you are. I have lived an worked in many foreign countries an if i wanted a uk curriculum and values type education for my kids it had to be private. So why we bed to the needs of the minorities is beyond me.

  18. In our business we have equality & diversity and health & safety policies. Both are perfectly sensible things to have and their content does not go beyond what I would consider to be reasonable behaviour towards others. Health and safety issues do take up time and resources, but they also make you focus on good working practices and prevent accidents.

"Health and safety gone mad" is media led and highlighted by people who use "health and safety" as a cover for their own stupidity and not by correctly applied policies and regulations.
