I'm a nice chap and all that but a 5-6 hr drive at the minute isn't possible I'm stacked with work and can't spare the time, I'm sure we can get it running over the phone , I helped my brother set tappets timing set up his carbs and sort electrical gremlins and set his steering over Skype a couple of weeks ago, I'm sure we can get ya running :)

If all else fails (and it does sound like it's possibly going to be a break in that white wiring loom because it goes very hard over time) have you not thought about wiring in a separate relay to take over the fuel pump?
Had a bus in that wouldn't start. Turned out to be the plug at the relay was a really bad fit.

  10. Hey rickyrooo air lock on the fuel system side.
Mine wouldn't start or pump until i took the fuel return pipe off the fuel return regulator pipe and let petrol through then put the pipe back on and then it fired up.
Worth a try regulator sticks through the bulk head trim up by the stater motor take the pipe off crank it over petrol squirts out which will prove pump and fuel system is all working.

  11. Feel for you Rick, its just the final hurdle - you'll get over it! My double relay problem was just the live feed to the Fi system from the relay's, the connection inside the relay had given up the ghost - took a live feed from the heater blower. You could check the Ignition Control unit (next to the relays) has power?

mmmm? the pumps not running though, it's electric? i'm favouring the idea that something isn't telling it to run but to be fair i'm not in the mood at the moment to care..... keep the thoughts coming though chaps - i'm just a big sulky tired baby this morning and everything's an effort.

give me an old diesel anyday - won't start? no fuel or air in the fuel = the end.

not running "properly" gives you more options than not running full stop! but cheers row.

  18. Just checked my thread, found that the link for the mechanics manual you need wasn't working...fixed it and the link is...

    http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives...njection_types_1_and_2_from_november_1974.pdf

Seriously, work through the manual and follow the steps, it takes all the head scratching out of the equation. It's simple, shove this in there and see what happens, if it (a) started go to page 4, (b) sparked go to page 5, (c) blew up, <shrug shoulders>

It works through the FI system in order, when it finds something that isn't right it tells you how to fix it.

cheers, i noticed your link wasn't working last night, i'm printing it off now as there's no internet at eddies hardly so i'd struggle there.

  20. Just a thought - does Eddie know anything about FI? Hard to imagine that he doesn't! Or have you already had him helping?
