Hi i was hoping someone could help me decode the serial number on my engine. i have had a look around but can not find a guide. Thanks in advance TLB you are my saviour
That's not the engine number, just the casting material (AS21) and the VW part number. The engine number lives at the base of the alternator stand if you've got a type 1 engine.
Isnt that where the case code is? engine numbers round the other side on the alternator stand near where it says zundesfolde 1432 or something? I am not an expert on these matters, I'm sure someone will be along soon to confirm/deny what I said
got distracted while posting, snotty beat me to it, anyway i have an as41 case so i googled what an as21 is and they may be better, magnesium instead of aluminium
See the number below the alt stand... in this instance this engine is a vege recon, so the number has been restamped on a ally plate and riveted to the case... originally it's stamped straight into the case
