Engine Number?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by mattw, Oct 28, 2012.

  1. Hi all,

Sorry for another Noob post (feel like I'm asking lots at the moment!)

I've tried searching online for where my engine number should be stamped (below the generator stand). I have nothing stamped on mine :-(

I have AS 41 stamped on the crank case with some other numbers below.

I just wanted to check what engine my bus came with for buying parts etc

Any ideas? I have an engine number on the V5 which doesn't match anything I've found

    Thanks, Matt

what engine "came" with your bus? to find this out have you decoded your m-plate? this will tell you loads of info about it's original make up.

If it has no number it may be rebuilt on a new case.
If you're buying parts, other than the B&P's they're all going to be the same whether it's 1600 or 1641.

  4. The m plate says it had a Type 1 AD 1584cc but I want to know what it has now.

    The v5 says its a 1.6 engine.

Are there any telltale signs as to what cc it might be?

    Cheers

well i'm no expert on engines - but if it's an upright engine then it's a 1.6/1584 unless it's been rebored etc - if it's not a suitcase engine 17/18/2 litre... piicy?

  6. Yeah It's the upright one - so its likely to be a 1.6 (ish!)?

yeah i would think so - it doesn't look overly modified from that picture, one of the lawnmower guys will know more, sorry i'm as dumb as you i'm running a 2 litre type 4 fuel injection.

  8. No worries mate, thanks for your help 8)

Like Zed said, if there is nothing there, then it's a new block engine....

    It's most likely a stock 1600; could also be 1641, 1776 etc.

True enough. It's probably a bog standard 1600

  13. Cheers guys

Do you recon there is any point in getting the V5 engine number stamped on it?
