I havent sold anything in a long time on ebay because of the charges If i was to sell anything now id do it during a free listing weekend and only sell stuff i was going to take to the tip anyway
the charges are madness.......esp as half the time ,things dont sell ...or i get a silly offer for stuff...example raybans genuine wayfarrer(blues bruvs one)in shop 120 quid ....my price 79.99 and there genuine ...sum bloke offered me 20 quid ..mental
as Para says, free listing weekends... you do get lots of chancers on ebay, I had a welder listed recently, brand new, list price was £1100, I was asking £850 on bin or offers... some guy offered me £300 for it other options are advertising on forums like here or VZi. etc... you have to become a member sponsor, but peanuts compared to ebays charges!!
It's things like this that play into amazons hands. Contact amazon and ask to become a merchant. They take a % per sale so no listing fees etc and you control the inventory so no auction style unsold items. They are just on sale all the time. The fact that amazon now outsells eBay almost 2:1 is testament to their better selling platform. If you are selling proper kit then amazon is the place to sell it, if it's knock off or 'clearance' eBay is there for punters looking for a bargain.
think ill try amazon as all my gear is genuine and not knocked off.....havent seen knocked off gear for years in east london ....even when they rioted looool...
one thing alot of people do on a buy it now is to lower the price drastically but put it on the postage so you only pay fees on the sale price not the postage so you want to sell item for £100 post £5 item sells you pay £10 (10%) you stick it on ebay for £20 buy it now with postage of £85 item sells you pay £2 (10%)
The selling fees just need to be factored in to the starting price. eBay was a great way of getting rid of unwanted stuff, sell your old golf clubs for £30 etc, but more people are using it as a business. If you got cash for something that was going to the tip you don't mind paying a fee, if you are selling as a business you hate the fees as it cuts your margin. Like any business, know your costs and factor them in, no point starting at 99p if you need £50 for it. If you have lots to sell then look at setti g up an eBay shop as the prices differ
General tips:- Do 9 day auctions to finish on a Monday so the auction has 2 full weekends of exposure. Try and keep starting prices as low as possible with no reserve - obviously this is a risk. Offer cheap postage and a faster (more expensive) alternative.
As aussie says, sort out your business model. It's important to work out your costs, and then research what similar items are selling for. If the difference between your cost and the average selling price appeals to you then go for it, if it doesn't then you either need to work on lowering your costs, selling for a higher price ensuring that you tell the customer why your product is better and so worth more, or go back to the drawing board...
Do Many people use amazon to look for camper stuff though? If I sell a self fit interior through ebay at 1400, I get charged 150 quid between ebay and paypal. Which is steep I think. Especially as you pay listing fee;s too. I try to sell out of ebay and use it more for an advert.
Amazon have set categories and things they are happy for merchants to sell, as Johnny is selling quality branded clothes it would fit in well, I agree on the camper products, not quite the right market. Having said that I sell chocolate on Amazon, and was the first to do so, and I didn't really expect much from it but it is now our biggest sales channel online...
i said to the mrs ...carboot with the camper ...as people always wanna look at a bay =.more bods coming n avin a gander at the clobber at same time ...its better that my yellow reliant init geezer
