Does anyone have a rear anti-roll bar fitted?

Does anyone have a rear anti-roll bar fitted? An uprated front one is straightforward, but...

I saw a heavy duty rear one on a late bay last week (Lord Charles) and it was by far the lowest thing under the bus - it cleared the gearbox by a good 4" and I wondered if they're all like this and why? It was also spaced down from the shock mounts on 2" fittings - again why? I should have looked harder but the chance is gone. :( I'm now wondering if it should hug the gearbox and the shock fittings were upside down. I'm sure that can't be right though - I really should have paid more attention...

    Any pics would be interesting.

    Thanks for looking.

I fitted one last year and you’re right it is low; why I have no idea, it could and should be at least 2 inches higher. It needs the drop links from the bottom of the damper because the arc of the ARB doesn’t exactly follow the swing arm and the drop link allows the small movement.

If the bar wasn’t bent down so much and was closer to the level of the bottom of the gearbox it would be a really nice product – and would need less material to make. When Josh has sorted out all the other problems at JK maybe he could get with the manufacture and re-design it slightly. The kit didn’t have the longer bolts required to fit the bracket to the damper mount and getting them with the right grade was a bit of a challenge, something else that needs sorting.

Sorry, I don’t have a bucket of photos and can’t post pics.

Perhaps some pedantic wassock in the Empi desiogn office said " what if you want to drop the gearbox?"

Or maybe the same one fits another vehicle and we're being fobbed off.

Empi have a design office? If they have nobody has looked at what they designed; if they had they would realise it would have been easier and a bit cheaper to make it correctly.

It wouldn’t fit another car unless it had enough ground clearance that it didn’t matter if half of it was used up with a bar in the wrong place.

I think more homework is needed. Not much point for me in raising the suspension back up to gain ground clearance then loosing it hanging a bar off the bottom.

Don’t fit an ARB on the back without the thicker (than standard) one on the front – unless you want a lot of oversteer.

If the JK pic includes all the parts supplied in the front kit the bolts aren’t included so they have solved the problem of them being too short and the wrong grade.

  11. Not all bars sit low according to richard atwell:
EMPI one sits a lot lower than the sway-away one he's got fitted:

  12. Good god you don't Miss anything do you.
Mines an Empi if i remember correctly, don't know if it really made any difference.
the way it bolts on leaves so much play i cant see it being any good really

  13. I removed my rear empi one, as my bus is already quite low, the bar looked too low for my liking.

I still have it all packaged up (with fitting instructions, I think) If anyone is interested.

Still have the empi front one on, which is fine.
