Do I need to replace my clutch?

  1. The rear oil seal on my 1700 engine was leaking which caused the clutch to slip. The oil seal is is now being replaced, so do I need to replace the clutch plate or can the old one be re-used? It was only about 2000 miles old so not worn out. I do not want to have it stuck back in and it still slips.

If you can get just the friction plate do that as it's far far cheaper. Once it's impreganted with oil I'd guess it will still slip, but like you I've haven't been tempted to test this.

  3. Thanks Zed. Pretty much what I thought. More expense.......

  4. depends on how badly oiled it is... i have washed friction discs with solvent before (panel wipe is a good degreaser) but they only had a light oiling on them!!
