Did you or do you do drugs?

  1. The time and place, 1967....21 years old...Das Island, Arabian Gulf.
I was invited by the Arab skipper of a Dhow that was sheltering from the 'Shimal' that was blowing down the gulf, to partake of his Hubble Bubble Pipe that he was smoking, while sitting on the deck.
A Syrian friend that was with me, told me to take a big drag, and take it down, 'as the smoke is very cool'.
I took a big drag......took it down....then shortly after, Das Island harbour tilted at 45 degrees and started spinning round!
I pleaded for something to drink, as I was ready to vomit and I was given the only liquid to hand, a can of hot Heineken which proceeded to make me honk over the side.
So ended my Hasheesh smoking and my drug taking career!!

    Sounds really inviting,,

Ice is a potent form of meth which can be smoked in a similar way to cocaine, with both producing similar effects of an immediate, intense high and increased alertness.

It gets its name because it resembles rock candy or a chip of ice. People describe the sensation from smoking ice as ‘amping’, as if they become an over amplified wire from the euphoria the drug gives them. Unlike the 15 minute high crack users get, the high from ice can last between 8 and 24 hours.

Ice is a more potent form of meth (Picture: Getty) It’s used by placing the substance in a glass pipe, heating it and inhaling the vapours. These enter the bloodstream through the lungs and get rapidly sent to the brain. The drug is reusable, as when it’s heated, the solid crystals turn to liquid, then revert to its original state. It can also easily be used in public without being detected, as it has no scent. Ice is used both for recreational purposes, and in the workplace to increase alertness. Ice can make people feel anxious and depressed

Some people will smoke ice for days at a time, then ‘crash’ into a deep sleep that lasts 24 hours or more. Ice is one of the most destructive drugs on the illicit market, as it has devastating physical, mental and behavioural effects. If a supply of ice holds out, a person can stay up for days, eating little or no food – and when it wears off, they will be exhausted, anxious and depressed. The cravings for ice are intense, and people will do whatever it takes to get more. An ice user can get violent, having severe mood swings – and if they need to commit crimes to get more drugs, they will consider this more important than anything else. Users can become angry If they’re high when planning the crime, they’re likely to go into it with enhanced levels of confidence and aggression.

Physical side effects include weight loss, heart palpitations and sores on the body, made worse by users who pick at and scratch their bodies, due to hallucinations of bugs crawling under their skin. Ice users can have severe dental problems that result in all of the teeth being extracted – and other symptoms include: Fatal kidney and lung disorders Brain damage A disorganised, damaging and chaotic lifestyle Permanent psychological problems Excessive weight loss Diminished social ability A lowered resistance to illness Liver disease Stroke Mental harm It’s dangerous for ice users to be in households, as paranoia is very common and can lead to heavy ice users attacking children, babies or loved ones due to delusions that they are an enemy or the devil.

Overdosing can lead to symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, heart attack, stroke or even cardiac arrest.

  13. I'd agree with @art b here. Anyone who grew up in the 70s as I did has enjoyed the odd herbal cigarette in their time, but I'd say the situation's completely different now: it's become completely destructive. Fortunately, neither of my kids has has shown any interest in drugs (my son doesn't even drink).

  15. It is, but what can you do ;)? It's well known that you can't trust anyone who doesn't drink...

He "cured" himself by draining half a bottle of vodka when he was 14. We found him semi-conscious in a local park. Never touched a drop since.
