crankshaft oil seal

  1. Hi Folks,
Engines been leaking oil for some time now so decided to bite the bullet and take her out and change the crankshaft oil seal, got the flywheel off, but the old oil seal is difficult to come out, the seal rubber seems quite weak and is coming away in bits, dont want to start poking things in there for fear of damaging the sealing faces, any ideas as to the best way to remove them?

  2. Just pop it out with a pri bar or drill it and screw a self tapper in and pull on it.

  4. Don't be shy. Get a suitable flat, blunt thing, put it behind the seal and lever the lot out. The metal ring is part of the seal.

  6. Thanks for the help guys, I finally realised that the metal ring was part of the seal, as you described, prised it out with a srewdriver, fitted the new seal in...job done.

  7.

  8. Make sure you drift the new one home as far as it will go before refitting the flywheel
