  1. Does anyone know where I can get 4-5 inch copper tubing from at a reasonable price?

I assumed 4-5 inches was diameter, as normal sized copper pipe can be got from anywhere (BnQ etc)

  9. Yeah diameter, about 2m length. I've been to the local plumbing trade places but it's all push fit plastic now.

  10. can i ask what its for and what gauge ?
My old mans a copper smith and may sell you a bit but it ain`t gonna be cheap !

  11. Some eastern europeans generally have a good supply :-X

  12. Reflux still:

Cheap as possible is the name of the game here.

  13. Does it have to be copper? Prices have shot up in the last few years, we get 1000's of pounds back each year just from weighing in our copper swarf at the scrappy.
    Could stainless be an alternative?

  14. Stainless works, but, you need copper in the system to remove the 'bad' odours and chemicals also I can't weld stainless. Lol.

Traditionally all pot stills and reflux stills use copper. It's just a pain the price of copper is so high.

  15. How about making your own tube from a sheet of copper, which is more readily available?

  16. I was thinking the same thing.

  17. Careful the feds aint watching (what you distillin? shhhhhhh! ;)

  18. Home distillation is fine

Jewsons next door to us @ work sell copper tubing, we bought some the other week, was only a few bob for a 2m length of 1" bore pipe

  20. I want to try some whiskey/bourbon (corn liquor or sour mash) and rum.

I've got a pot still for the rum but it's not right for the whiskey. Also making neutral (vodka basically) you need to distill the ferment numerous times to remove all the flavour. Hence vodka is 'triple distilled', that's what a reflux still does. Multiple distillations in one run.
