Concrete float foundations, how thick?

My other half Ian Juckes, is a builder he says "6" is adequate to take your camper, but to be on the safest possible side, for an additional cost of approx £80 put two sheets of steel re-enforcing mesh in the concrete and that would take a tanker let alone a camper". Make sure the ground underneath the concrete base is solid and not soil or grass it has to be hardcore"

Still can't totally afford to build it but my parents offered to lend me some cash and it'll pay them back at a later date.
