Completely new to the scene

  1. Hi

Complete newcomer, new to TLB & camper vans. I haven't even got one yet but, with divorce in the pipeline :( I'm lining up to get one. But I'm a bit worried by all the thefts I'm seeing. Are camper vans particularly prone to theft (bearing in mind I don't have a garage)?

Sorry for being a pessimist so early on (guess it's due to current circumstances). Here's hoping for brighter times.

    Chris

    As you were.

  5. Welcome Chris

As they say ^ dont worry about them getting nicked, you only read about buses more because we all look out for each other, i bet theres loads more golfs and focuses that get taken without there owners conesnt. :)

Good luck on the hunt for a bus, people on here are always happy to give advice.

Oh soz, just been up Cannock Chase to take some pics of me van and i had Stan Collymore and Dogging on the brain.........what i meant to say was "Hello new member welcome, please leave your keys in the fruit bowl as you enter the room"
Lol, seriously, welcome we ain't all sane around here.....

  8. Thanks, that's good to know. Starting to get bit paranoid. And yes, noticed the high post traffic this sight has. Not sure I'll be able to keep up :)

Not sure if this should be another thread, and I'd hate to be branded a heretic so early on, but if I were to chose a new model, aka Danbury, would I be chased out of town? Expensive yes but finance and warranty all strike me as convenience not to be sneezed at.

no you wouldn't be chased off, a new bay is still a late bay to us although they have their own site as well, the money you spent on a brand new would get you a brilliant import though and you can get finance from a bank so maybe think on before buying a danbury brazillian, the only benefit i would say is that they are good mpg on the 1.4 polo engine but it won't give you the aircooled smile.

  10. Hi M8, welcome, don't worry about thefts M8 just get a Cat 1 Alarm/immobilizer fitted by a local reputable dealer & budget for this in your price bracket.
It is almost impossible to rob a modern vehicle without the keys. Old vehicles are very easy to steal so that's why you hear of old camper vans going. :)

  11. Welcome aboard.
If you worried about theft you'd never buy anything worth nicking - Just enjoy it and take the obvious precautions

  13. hi mate, welcome to the site ;)
dont be put off by campers being nicked, theres plenty of advice and tips on here for keeping them safe, as safe as they can be anyway

  14. Hi Chris welcome to TLBs, sorry to hear about the divorce, know how it feels am going through one myself, but chin up, when you get your camper you will be devoted to that, cheer you up no end,

    Kirsty :)

  15. Thanks all. I'm suitably reassured about thefts. I was planning on an immobiliser so weight off my mind.

Cheers Dinky. Can't wait for it all to be over and I can start afresh. And a camper is just what the doctor ordered, and will be equally appreciated by my two girls (4 & 6) who have been champing at the bit since I started toying with the idea. Colours have been a bit of a battle zone though. Eldest wants pink or lilac, youngest wants orange and I want, well, something less girlie :) Whatever the colour, nit will be my main vehicle, so reliability is a must.

Decisions decisions. Just got to wait on house sale and solicitor's agreement on division of the spoils, which probably means I get naff all, being a bloke. English law sucks. But a bay I will get.

  16. Welcome along mate - i aint got a bay yet either but there are a whole heap of good folks on here who will help us along the way.

  18. Hello and welcome

My advice if your new to this is turn and run away as fast as you can otherwise youll end up skint and crazy like the rest of us

  19. Welcome!
i wouldn't worry about theft to much, if they want your van they will just enter your home, take your keys and your anal virginity :D
