Complete refit - Modern or retro? Any opinions please?

  1. I've recently helped fit a VanWurks interior into a mates van. Impressed with quality of the units and Nick was excellent. Only hold up was the bed, but that was out of his hands.

Seems expensive but once you start adding up the price of sinks, cookers, handles, hinges etc etc...

  2. even VW get things wrong sometimes ;)

Modern if its a blank canvas
    :)

  3. You said you prefer a 3/4 bed to be able to retain the swivels...the bed won't affect the swivels. 3/4 or full width. I think in an ideal world you'd have two buses...one cutesy and cramped, with loads of impractical cupboards, sink, fridge, cooker, cubby holes with doors that you can't open when the bed's out, contortion act every time you get changed etc....and then one which is a camping vehicle...nothing in it except a full width bed, proper insulation, nice sound system and a fold up table...(basically, a caravelle with a roof conversion) All your camping gear kept in bags that you chuck in the awning when you camp up...I know it's not quite the same, but practically speaking, the more space the better IMO. Before you commit to buying an off the peg interior, I'd give some serious consideration to a lightweight stand-alone camping unit that can be lifted in and out of the bus easily...3 way cooler box (rather than a built in fridge) portable camping stove/grill, water container with hand pump....couple of fold out shelves on the sides and a drawer for utensils etc. It's not a new idea, and there are plenty of designs to choose from...better still, go to a decent camping shop, measure up a stove, water container, gas bottle and design your own...much cheaper and more fun (if you're that way inclined:))

Mrs Moosey and paradox like this.
  4. Thats the way im going to build mine
Full with bed and a cooker and sink pod with gas bottle and water container plus storage for plates /cuttelry and untensils
The whole pod will be able to be used in the bus or lifted out and used in the awning
Westfalia did the same sort of thing with a unit for the t3

  5. My van has an original westy interior I searched for 2 years for it. So will do all I can to look after him to keep it usable forever if I can. I love the Retro look about him. Mark however likes modern so to compromise we are hiding little modern touches in him like little led strip lights and plug sockets. Because pulling his original interior out would feel like taking his guts out to me.

  6. I've just lined mine out with auto carpet. Think it came out well. I've moved my 3/4 bed to the middle with new arm rest pods either side so when the beds folded out its a full width bed. Material was only £12 metre width was quite big too. Still haven't decided on units but reckon ill be going the pod route too! ;)

  7. ..."i'll be going the pod route too!"
'tis the way of the enlightened....literally and metaphysically..,
Reckon you could squeeze a couple of small cubby-holes, with fold-out shelves into those bedside armrests Lardy? or at the very least a compact and bijoux drinks cabinet with micro-decanter:burp:

Carpeting those Plate Reverb noise generators (aka Bulkheads) should quieten things down a bit! You'll now be able to hear all those strange noises emanating from within and without:D

"Because pulling his original interior out would feel like taking his guts out to me."

That's exactly how I felt when I stripped my Eurovette, only to find that there were no guts there....just fresh air, the occasional particle of chip board and lots of bad planning!o_O
