Clutch cable slack has been taken up by the wing nut. Pedal still sitting low and its not springing back.

I did a video of the other end by it won't upload. Basically the lever on the gearbox doesn't move that far either.

  2. I'd hazard a guess that your cable is hanging on by a thread or snapped altogether. same happened to mine on the A12 after buying a cable the week before and leaving it in the shed :(

Keep winding the wing nut until the clutch pedal lifts to roughly the same height as the brake pedal

There's not much left to wind up mate. Do vws have a ratchet mechanism on the clutch pedal assembly or is it bog simple?

Simple, cable and but on the end, you may need a new cable but you will be surprised how much the pedal raises with 2 or 3 threads of adjustment.

Get a new cable anyway not dear .

  7. Check its running properly through the Bowden tube, and that the bracket that holds it hasn't snapped off...if the curve in the tube straightens out, it makes the cable, in effect, longer. I reckon it's on its last legs though

So I replaced it and the cable was fine. I changed it out for a new one anyway. basically the pedal will not spring back up after being depressed. What is the cause of that? Any ideas?

  9. Is the spring broken on the clutch release arm on the bellhousing?

I don't think so because if I pull the pedal up it returns the cable. I think it needs changing though. What's the spring called and is it replaceable?

Maybe the pedals jamming, check it's not getting stuck on the edge of the hole in the floor or sticking on the pivot or as @onion says maybe the spring on the gearbox is broken or the one on the pedal

  12. Might be talking tosh but does it need the stack of washers treatment ? When i put the new cable on my van i had to put about 10 washers on to get it to tighten up. Sold our van now so cant get a pic. Someone will be able to advise but they are shown in bentley also...

How springy is the lever on the gearbox ? Does the clutch engage/ disengage ?

The pedal is free to move. The cable moves through the conduit ok, when i go under and move the arm on the gearbox, the cable moves with it so its not the cable, plus ive just replaced it anyway. It must be that spring. but i have one of those feelings that i will change it and nothing will be different as usual.

  15. Is it the right length cable? Don't they come in two different lengths?

    Yes it is perfect length

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

But it's obviously not if you have almost no adjustment left and the pedal is still on the floor?

No that's on the old cable. Basically the clutch lever on the box moves fully along with the pedal. The problem now is that it is not returning back. But everything is freely moving. The only concern might be the Bowden tube is not new, and may be causing friction, but it is not causing the cable to slack up or gather. If I move it via the lever on the gearbox it moves freely but literally just doesn't spring back as you would expect.
