I came home from hospital in one of these - a Standard Vanguard

The other car I remember best was a Morris Oxford which was left hand drive which my dad bought in Canada, and for some reason known only to him, imported back to the UK when the family moved back. He drove it into the ground.

  7. In the early 90"s a mate got a Ford Zodiac which we would use as our pub to pub to club transport , in the (usually) Oxfordshire area, great fun , car my dad had when i was a nipper was a hillman minx? that would have been the 60" s IF i am correct on the model? it had a "bench" front seat , i" d love one of those vehicles.also remember giving him a hand trying to get a gearbox into an austin cambridge , as i remember it was quite a job.(beleive it had as standard a starting handle >brill !

  8. Not the late great father Fishtrousers, but my English teacher, Mr Davies, used to have an early Renault 5 - so 850 or 950cc.
He'd take 5 kids - rammed in this poxy little plastic lined car to something or other in Leicester & then coming back to school in Shepshed,
J23 of the M1, he'd nail it all the way down the long hills from J22 & by the time we exited, the speedo was nudging 100mph.

& the metalwork teacher Graham something had a Renault 6
Another incident coming back over the hills from Coalville, there's a long hill with a vicious left at the bottom before you head back up again.
I swear he was doing 50 miles per hour & the door handles scraped the tarmac through the corner
