..car tax changes..

  1. How many cyclists do you think don't own a car?

  2. That's the new Farage anti cyclist campaign. I don't know if anyone has done a study as to how much wear to the road a bicycle does against a car and also a lorry, I'd be interested to know. I ride a bike and I've paid lots of tax.

  3. Some even own historic camper vans on which they pay no vehicle excise duty

  4. @Pickles You cannot argue the fact that there wouldn't be roads if there wasn't car and white transit Vans. So bicycles should not be allowed on them!

I think you will find they pay council tax or their employers pay business rates.. so they do pay.

  9. What I cant understand is how or why you TRY to turn a thread about government tax on motorists into a one about the ills of cycling. I see some pretty Marmite car and van driving too, saw a big fat bloke in his white van the other day reading his phone not looking where he was going nearly caused a pile up

  12. Some weird language in that article - has it been badly translated - what is a "spherical journey" - are you a "common driver"?

The ;) was irony, but whilst we are the subject...

If they own a car then they have paid tax to use said car....there is no road fund tax for bicycles is there?

Saying you pay various taxes means you deffo covered the cost of roads is a nonsense....under that reasoning people that pay more tax have more rights to public ‘things’ that those that don’t...I should get more street light lumens than my less well off friend!?

I don’t actually believe cyclists should pay tax for roads.....but why not cycle lanes?

Without falling out, can a cyclist please tell me why they choose to ride outside of the cycle lane. A cyclist in Huddersfield didn't seem to like me asking why he was blocking the road off and not using it.

  16. There isn’t one answer to that question. Bike lanes are advisory only so riders ain’t obliged to use them - that’s why you can park you car in them and not get a ticket, like pavements. Not you personally. The cycling infrastructure is rubbish in the uk and is usually shoe-horned in as an afterthought. Much of it doesn’t work for cyclists first and foremost. Lanes tend to get full of rubbish and are rarely swept - that matters on a bike more than in a car.
As an experiment, go out on a bike and check out the infrastructure in your neck of the woods. I’m certain it’ll be at best poor and at worst will put you in danger.
Incidentally, road and pavement maintenance is paid for by council tax not road tax, cyclists - or drivers for that matter - who jump lights, speed, litter etc, don’t do so because they’re cyclists, they do so because they’re d*******s.

This particular one is quite wide . The main issue on that stretch is it is up hill with bollards in the centre of the road so you have no chance of passing, hence the need for a separate lane. I would not have said anything if it was narrow with potholes and it was difficult to ride in.
