Guys..Im not sure what to think about this..so confused every time I read about it..what are ur thoughts on this?..at first I thought they are looking for some way to charge new ev car owners who don’t pay the VED..but from my understanding they are not..they looking at charging all of us road users but by HOW MUCH?..is this suppose to be a bad joke?..I mean seriously do they really think people would pay said £0.75 per mile?..so £75 pre 100 so £750 per 1000 miles?..or is my math that bad?..seriously all that pushing for those ev,smart mways smart everything, black boxes is all about?..control and ripping us off beyond the limits?..if something like this would become the reality I will definatelly consider moving out of this country but..where would I go?..Im really dreading about my children future..something bigs coming and I mean BIG..in the meantime we beeter enjoy driving our tax exempt buses while we can

So four people sharing a car would pay 18.75p per mile each.
That's still cheaper than the train.

75p a mile, tracking all vehicles will be OK. Especially for heavy EVs. Otherwise you have to charge duty on mains electricity in case you charge an EV off it.

The £15 congestion charge in London is about the same.

It will mean that you will not travel by road, and use public transport.

Or vote out the politicians if you really think its worth fighting against.

Will it matter, we all work from home and won’t be allowed out anyway so won’t need a car anyway

  8. What ‘big’ thing do you expect to arrive? Assume you mean some culturally seismic moment? Genuine question.

As acountry we have sent our brave armed forces to distant shores to kill the leaders of those countrys because of the way the leaders treated their people .the way our leaders are now treating us leads me to believe theres gonna be an invasion of the UK soon for the same reasons

That article is so badly written, I gave up reading it.

  12. It takes some doing to write that drivel. Click bait for the paranoid.

  13. This cant work as most things travel by road, I normally drive 40,000 miles per year for contracting in the food industry so better start practising my shelf stacking skills at tesco :( or by a place in Calais and register my van there :)

  14. If that happened there would be no Government left!

  15. Cyclists should have a reg stop them jumping red light! pay insurance and tax.

Its a click bait article - however - one thing to note was Mr Tumble did say a couple of weeks ago he fully expected half the cars on the road to be electric by 2030.

So all new cars Electric, and around half of all the others in regular use.

Unsure of he understood or read his briefing (doubtful) - but they will only achieve that by hitting the majority of car users hard - given there are around 40 million cars and we buy around 2.5 to 3 million per year, he could just hit that.

But then we buy around 40,000 electric cars each year, so they won't be electric.

My reading is that the article suggests the effective rate would be 75p a mile if it costs £15 a day to be allowed to use a car, and you only do 20 miles. This is then extrapolated to hundreds of pounds for longer journeys.

It is also likely that as with Diesel cars in the late 90's, once they reach 25% market penetration, all the tax breaks come off. So this £15 may well be for EVs only at first. ..

If you can read the somewhat staccato poorly literate English of the person who wrote it. It hurt my mind not because of the content but the poor writing.

Here's my not-but-ought-to-be news "Instead of tightening rules over Christmas to prevent the dismal COVID surge that will happen - Government closes Service Stations and filling stations over the Christmas Break to help people decide to stay at home"

  20. I would agree with you. We're definitely sleepwalking into...something. I'm not sure I like what it is.
