  2. Our work Vitos have been very reliable. Not a lot else to say about them though.

  3. We used to travel across France a lot in a modern car but we enjoy it far more now we have the bay. Then it was just about getting there and now it's about the journey as well. But I guess if you really don't like all that sentimental stuff then you should just get something else.

    Serious question for you Rick.

Since having the T5 have you enjoyed owning it as much as Bolly.

Define enjoy? Poles apart, as I've said on many threads the bay made people smile and wave and chat but it was slow and uncomfortable, the t5 is faster, warmer, more economical and superior in every way but when parked up onsite the only difference is the sliding door is on the other side.
I loved the bay for different reasons but you can't seriously have one for a daily only.

Do you feel like you get the same buzz when you go out in the T5, Or is it so reliable and modern it takes some of the fun out of it. Sort of loses some of that spirit of adventure we used to get in our bays?

You need to remember the reason I got a bay, no other reason than I had a caravan so went camping but also had landrovers for 21 years so I had a "scene" I followed, I knew if I wanted a camper instead of caravan I'd have to sell my Landy at the time to fund it (td5 disco) and buy a crap car to run round in, so I sold the Landy bought a very old fiesta and lent a bit more to get the bay, loved it at the time but in fairness the cost of running 2 vehicles and the price of fuel for a thirsty old van limited the camping anyway.... Fast forward 5 years and I get a t5 sell my car run just 1 and do more camping etc etc, I'm not knocking my bay I loved it and it made me many friends I'd not have if I'd have gone straight to t5 but I don't think I'll get another unless I can afford to let it sit unused for fun dates.

Oh and was there a buzz? I dunno, more a feeling of trepidation

That depends on your circumstances. You can't, but I and others can, do, and love it. ;)

Agreed I meant I can't afford to run one as a single vehicle daily

And yet you can afford to spend even more on a depreciating asset. It's down to personal taste, it's daft trying to justify everything in life in cash terms? That way lies dullness.

In the nicest way ( NOT INTENDED TO OFFEND ) Your experience is the same as the Andyc's, but more vocal.

    Missed your first post bud.

I always think bays or old campers/vehicles in general are something you either have fond memories of and want to relive some part of your life or are something that looks cool and soon becomes a fad that gets boring.

I picked an old bay cos I had old landies and liked tinkering now I don't.... If I could afford a 2nd vehicle to tinker with when I felt like it I might have one but I just like to turn the key and go.

That was something that always made me smile with bay and beetle ownership. The people who sell 'turnkey engines' They have obviously never owned a old bay ;)

  20. I don't think a lot of people expect to do commuting in a 40 year old vehicle ,I would'nt even though I am pretty handy with a hammer...:D

A nice warm daily desiel hack and the van for holidays and trips ...I do think you had a bad vehicle with it been auto ,petrol money was an issue ,so i probably would do the same...

I got sick of tinkering as well and was a bit paranoid about about seam rust etc ,so I got a landy and T25 the perfect combo....;)

I never ever considered a newer van for commuting , I felt it a waste , unless I was nicking stuff from work...:D
