Castleton Caravan Club site is in a great location - great walks from there and a stroll into the village.
@F_Pantos I Just rang the site I like near monsal head (wondering about going myself at some point). They are only allowing self sufficient campers (EG you need a portaloo). They are only allowing 10 'units' on site at a time. Her daughter runs https://www.derbyshirehills.co.uk/ campsite that does have open toilet/shower facilities, but they only have mid week availability as they are fully booked at weekends
We free camped at the top of Mam Tor on Saturday night near the Blue John cavern, there was about 20 other vans doing the same, you can also do the same at the bottom end of the broken road which is easy walking distance from Castleton. Own loo is a bonus!
I've always avoided membership of the C&C club , my logic being I mostly stay on their small certified location sites without any paperwork and the cash went to the farmer - up to him if he declared it and the club took a cut . I'd like to think it went in his pocket. I'm all for wild camping by the way but 'she' insists on a bog ... The virus has changed everything . First camp this year was a tiny site and being Sunday we had the 6 pitches to ourselves but the farmer , even though he remembered us , had to record contact details and luckily I'd joined the C&C a couple of weeks before so could produce a membership card and all was well . If I hadn't joined he couldn't legally let me stay . I'm not one for clubs but if needs must .... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
A bog is a must in my opinion - that way I don't have to rely on campsites. Cheers fo rthe recommendations folks, I might look at them for next week. We're going to follow the good weather and see where we end up.
